Hot Tech Stocks To Watch Right Now

The biotechs and emerging pharma havebeen under pressure from politicians attacking drug prices. That doesn’t mean that there are not some big winners out there. Sometimes the biggest winners are companies most investors have never heard of. Even if you have been a biotech and emerging pharma investor for years, chances are high that you would have never heard of a small outfit called Apricus Biosciences Inc. (NASDAQ: APRI).

To see a move of more than 100% you might assume that this was a buyout. It wasn’t. Apricus was listed in the top biohealth movers on Wednesday, but the reality is that this was the top stock of them all.

Apricus Biosciences reported on Wednesday morning that Mexico has granted the companys commercialization partner, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, market approval for Vitaros. Here is why this matters : Vitaros is an on-demand topical cream indicated for the treatment of patients with erectile dysfunction.

Even after a 130% rally in a single day, Apricus has a market cap that is not quite $27 million. That means this whole company was worth less than $15 million the day before. Most investors would turn away immediately if they saw a move like this. Others who thrive on riskier bets might feel the exact opposite.

That being the case, it wouldnt take substantial market share gains for AMD to reverse the multi-year decline in its processor business, as performance/watt is what will drive adoption from key PC makers like Dell, HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ)and Lenovo. AMD hasnt been very competitive in the MPU (microprocessor unit) segment for quite a while, but given the recent node shift to 14nm FinFET over at GlobalFoundries, and mention of new architecture by AMD earlier this year at COMPUTEX Taiwan, I get the impression that performance of Summit Ridge, i.e. Zen will match Skylake and will perhaps come in slightly slower than Kaby Lake.

Top 10 Tech Stocks For 2018

Turkey Day is nigh and the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 are at highs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.31% to 19083.18, a new record close! The S&P 500 gained 0.08% to 2,204.72, also a new record close. The Nasdaq Composite was down 0.11% to 5,380.68. The Trump effect continues: industrial and defense stocks are in; tech stocks are out.

While much remains uncertain, a rate hike in December seems guaranteed. No its not just 2015 d茅j vu. Stifels Lindsey Piegza explains:

The November FOMC meeting minutes are essentially moot at this point. Against the backdrop of a flurry of Committee members comments including the Chairman herself suggesting a rate rise was imminent, the market is now pricing in a December hike with 100% certainty.

Still, a few notable items in the November FOMC meeting minutes to digest ahead of the holiday:

There remains much debate among the Committee members over the need for preemptive Fed action. Some argued that risks to economic and financial stability could increase over time if the labor market overheated, and furthermore that maintaining low interest rates for an extended period could lead to a further mispricing of risk. Of course, other suggested that given the sill-lackluster pace of activity in the overall economy, allowing the unemployment rate to fall below its longer-run normal level for a time could result in favorable supply-side effects, as well as potentially hasten the return of inflation back to the Committees longer-term 2% objective.

While the direct revenue exposure to the UK is relatively small across our coverage (aside fromTyco and Idex), the potential impact from Brexit is much more widespread across the continent and the world. The impact should be most negative for our companies with larger industrial exposure to Europe, just as we have begun to hear incrementally positive commentary regarding Europe.Idex andTyco have some of the highest direct exposures to UK and Europe but Tyco’s business should be relatively more stable and in any case theJohnson Controls (JCI) synergies loom large. Eaton (ETN) and Emerson Electric, though with slightly smaller exposure, are more involved with industrial spending.Danaher andHoneywell have high revenue exposure, but we believe that their more benign end market exposure should mitigate some of the negative consequences they face. We rate Allegion (ALLE), Danaher, Dover (DOV), Fortive (FTV), Honeywell, Ingersoll-Rand (IR), Pentair (PNR) andTyco Outperform; Emerson Electric, Eaton, General Electric (GE),Idex and 3M (MMM) Market-Perform; Rockwell Automation (ROK) Underperform.

But we don’t recommend buying in on this week’s Deutsche stock price rally…

Before we get into why we remain bearish on Deutsche Bank AG (NYSE: DB), here’s what has been driving shares so much higher this week…

Why the Deutsche Stock Price Has Rebounded

The Deutsche Bank stock price had been falling after U.S. regulators said they are seeking $14 billion in fines from the company for selling fraudulent mortgages that lead to the U.S. housing bubble.

But new reports this week indicate that the fine may actually be closer to $5.4 billion. Apparently the bank’s transgressions may not have been as bad as originally determined.

Mixed Landscape Of Market Fundamentals

After volatile swings in share price over past months amid a mixed landscape of market fundamentals, where is Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) heading? For reasons of a poor correlation between revenue performance and share price, substantially increasing competition, the prospect of world memory oversupply, inflexible gross and net margins, and negative free cash flow, this author holds that the stock is a short.

On June 26, 2017, Micron shares reached $32.96, a 15-month high. By August 11, the stock had lost $6.11 (18.5%) in value. Thereafter a subsequent rebound to $30.86 recouped more than half of that lost value. With both a new CEO onboard and an augmented $200 million research and development facility coming onstream, how may investors read the future direction of Micron?

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jim Robertson]

On Thursday, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggested shorting small cap LED semiconductor stockRubicon Technology (NASDAQ: RBCN):

Rubicon Technology isn’t going to be a monster-sized winner for us, even if things go perfectly. About the best downside target we could hope for is the $0.60 area, where the stock was launched into an unsustainable uptrend a week ago. But, it’s a high-odds trade we can’t pass up. Yesterday’s doji bar after a big rally was a warning sign that we were transitioning into a net-selling environment. Today’s sharp pullback confirms we’re moving into that bearish mode.

Top 10 Stocks To Buy For 2018: Golar LNG Partners LP(GMLP)

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Golar LNG Partners LP (GMLP), a limited partnership, owns and operates floating storage and regasification units and LNG carriers under long-term charters. This stock closed up 3.5% at $32.74 in Monday’s trading session.

    Monday’s Volume: 432,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 81,559

    Volume % Change: 283%

From a technical perspective, GMLP bounced notably higher here right off its 200-day moving average of $31.79 and back above its 50-day moving average of $32.56 with strong upside volume. This move is quickly pushing shares of GMLP within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if GMLP manages to take out Monday’s intraday high at $32.96 to some more near-term overhead resistance at $33.15 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in GMLP as long as it’s trending above its 200-day at $31.79 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that’s near or above 81,559 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then GMLP will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $34.78 to its 52-week high at $36.

Top 10 Stocks To Buy For 2018: Taranis Resources Inc. (TNREF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Sara Cornell]

While this can mean excess volatility on the world markets, a silver lining (pun intended) is that mining companies are growing in market favor. Taranis Resources Inc. (OTCBB: TNREF) (TSE: TRO.V), a mining and mineral exploration company based in Colorado and Vancouver, BC, is well positioned for growth in the current volatile markets, largely due to its Thor Deposit, an advanced-stage gold-silver-lead-zinc-copper mineral deposit that has near-surface mineralization that can be extracted with a low cost, open pit mine. Recent discoveries in The Thor Deposit, which is 100% owned by Taranis (OTCBB: TNREF) (TSE: TRO.V), indicate that the area could be prime for development into a significantly bigger mine.
