Top Clean Energy Stocks To Buy For 2018

The Q2 2017 earnings report formid cap network communication platform makerUbiquiti Networks Inc (NASDAQ: UBNT) is scheduled for after the market closes on Thursday (February 9). Ubiquiti Networkshas been in our SmallCap Network Elite Opportunity (SCN EO) portfolio as a M2M growth play with plenty of cash and very little debt. When we added the stock in November 2014, our SCN EO newsletternoted:

“The Company is deeply embedded in our ongoing growth theme of M2M (machine to machine), otherwise known as the Internet of Things or IoT. Meaning, they connect “things” and if you’ve been a Member of SCN EO for any length of time, then you know it’s a growth theme we’re extremely excited about over the next ten years. As a matter of fact, whether UBNT becomes a large cap someday or not, we strongly believe it’s an excellent takeout target for a much bigger player like CSCO, IBM or GE who continue to acquire companies like this in the M2M space.”

The firm has raised its rating on CHD from “Hold” to “Buy,” and has increased the company’s price target from $64 to $66. This price target suggests an 8% upside from the stock’s current price of $60.36.

Analyst Bill Schmitz commented: “Sustainable growth algorithm of 3-4% organic sales, high single digit EBIT and double-digit EPS growth intact, with upside from fast growing Avid vitamin business joining the base and highly flexible balance sheet enabling further M&A or more aggressive cash flow redeployment providing upside to total shareholder return profile.

“With shares underperforming the group and market over the last year and tempered Street outlook for CY14 versus long-term trend, we see an opportunistic window to own the shares at a reasonable entry point.”

Church & Dwight shares were mostly flat during pre-market trading Tuesday. The stock is up 13% YTD.

Top Clean Energy Stocks To Buy For 2018: Great Plains Energy Inc(GXP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Westar Energy stock declined 8% after regulators at the Kansas Corporation Commissions blocked the sale of Westar to Great Plains Energy (NYSE:GXP). The $12.2 billion merger would have joined utilities in Kansas and Missouri. Great Plains had argued that the combination would produce nearly $2 billion in efficiency gains in the next 10 years, but regulators instead sided with those who had argued that the deal was too rich and would have required rate increases sooner rather than later. Great Plains stock was hardly affected at all by the decision, leading many to conclude that Westar had a lot more to lose from the deal falling through then Great Plains had to gain from a successful merger.

Recent sales figuresseem to suggest that the enthusiasm for Apple (NSDQ:AAPL)products have waned as Microsofts surface has toppled Apples Macbook sales during November. More importantly and worrisome is the slump in iPhone unit sales, falling for the first time since the device hit the market in 2007.

Its difficult to think of a company with more than $200 billion in the bank as one that is at risk of losing momentum. However, Apple and its reliance on the iPhone, which accounts for roughly 60% of its revenue is starting to give investors a real cause for concern as the tech firm seems to be suffering from the perils of the iterative dilemma.

The Iterative Dilemma Many are starting to question Apples ability to wow consumers

The iterative dilemma best describes Apples current iPhone troubles At the infancy of the iPhones production cycle, the scope to innovate was wide enough to ensure that any new iteration would be considered a game changer, which not only differentiated its flagship phone from its competitors but also drove top line growth to record levels. Top 10 Tech Stocks For 2018

Turkey Day is nigh and the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 are at highs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.31% to 19083.18, a new record close! The S&P 500 gained 0.08% to 2,204.72, also a new record close. The Nasdaq Composite was down 0.11% to 5,380.68. The Trump effect continues: industrial and defense stocks are in; tech stocks are out.

While much remains uncertain, a rate hike in December seems guaranteed. No its not just 2015 d茅j vu. Stifels Lindsey Piegza explains:

The November FOMC meeting minutes are essentially moot at this point. Against the backdrop of a flurry of Committee members comments including the Chairman herself suggesting a rate rise was imminent, the market is now pricing in a December hike with 100% certainty.

Still, a few notable items in the November FOMC meeting minutes to digest ahead of the holiday:

There remains much debate among the Committee members over the need for preemptive Fed action. Some argued that risks to economic and financial stability could increase over time if the labor market overheated, and furthermore that maintaining low interest rates for an extended period could lead to a further mispricing of risk. Of course, other suggested that given the sill-lackluster pace of activity in the overall economy, allowing the unemployment rate to fall below its longer-run normal level for a time could result in favorable supply-side effects, as well as potentially hasten the return of inflation back to the Committees longer-term 2% objective.

Top 10 Tech Stocks For 2018: Pentair plc.(PNR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

While the direct revenue exposure to the UK is relatively small across our coverage (aside fromTyco and Idex), the potential impact from Brexit is much more widespread across the continent and the world. The impact should be most negative for our companies with larger industrial exposure to Europe, just as we have begun to hear incrementally positive commentary regarding Europe.Idex andTyco have some of the highest direct exposures to UK and Europe but Tyco’s business should be relatively more stable and in any case theJohnson Controls (JCI) synergies loom large. Eaton (ETN) and Emerson Electric, though with slightly smaller exposure, are more involved with industrial spending.Danaher andHoneywell have high revenue exposure, but we believe that their more benign end market exposure should mitigate some of the negative consequences they face. We rate Allegion (ALLE), Danaher, Dover (DOV), Fortive (FTV), Honeywell, Ingersoll-Rand (IR), Pentair (PNR) andTyco Outperform; Emerson Electric, Eaton, General Electric (GE),Idex and 3M (MMM) Market-Perform; Rockwell Automation (ROK) Underperform.

Count me among the investors who see the current rebound in retailers – mall retailers, in particular – as little more than a ‘dead cat bounce’. The long-term trend for the space is negative: there is simply no way that brick-and-mortar retailers can grow profits when traffic is declining, as appears likely to be the case long term.

In that context alone, the 28% gain in Vera Bradley (VRA) shares after the company’s Q3 report on Wednesday morning is overdone. VRA now has bounced 58% since touching an all-time low less than five weeks ago. Its enterprise value has close to doubled. And yet little has changed – and that goes for the supposed Q3 beat as well.

From a headline standpoint, VRA’s Q3 looks like a nice win, particularly on the bottom line. EPS of $0.23 beat consensus by $0.09; what was predicted to be a 33% decline instead turned out to be a 9.5% year-over-year increase. But all – all – of the beat came from two factors that do literally nothing to improve or even change the company’s forward-looking prospects.

We initiated Lennar (NYSE:LEN) in October, and thus wrote up our comments in our prior shareholder letter, but due to the shift in our letter cadence, we are republishing our thoughts from our initial purchase.

Marty Whitman said in October 1996: “Given Third Avenue’s investment criteria, it is more accurate to view the situation as the industry selecting the Fund, rather than Third Avenue choosing the industries in which to invest’ We think this quote superbly describes the opportunity the Value Fund saw in establishing a position in Lennar Corporation common in the quarter, as the shares sold off somewhat inexplicably from nearly $50 per share at their recent peak and allowed us to establish a position at just over $41.

We have followed Lennar for years as the Real Estate team reviewed the position at our weekly research meetings, and think the investment case has only improved on a fundamental level despite the widening valuation discount in the shares. Lennar meets every tenant of our investment philosophy.

The balance sheet is strong and improving. Homebuilding net debt to total capital has fallen to 33% as of FY4Q16. Much of this improvement is the result of management’s soft pivot land strategy, which is reducing the duration of its owned land bank and converting its undervalued balance sheet assets into cash.

From a compounding point of view, Lennar continues to build value through developing its land bank into saleable housing units, and by monetizing further transaction values through its mortgage origination and title insurance offerings to its home buyers. Notably, we are pleased and supportive of Lennar’s offer to acquire WCIC Communities (WCIC), a top holding of the Third Avenue Small-Cap Value Fund, as Miami-based Lennar knows WCIC’s 100% based Florida assets intimately. Lennar not only sees compelling opportunities to monetize WCIC’s over 14,000 homesites, but also synergy opportunities from management and supplier over

In addition to a tightening labor market and accelerating wage growth, the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index is close to 10-year highs and expectations that mortgage rates will continue to rise could motivate some potential homebuyers that may have been holding off. When it comes to existing homes the prices are high and the inventory is low. The combination of these factors could create a favorable environment for new homebuilders and the broader housing sector.

    Will Homebuilders Benefit?
Lennar Corporation (NYSE: LEN) reported Q1 earnings of $0.56 per share on March 21—slightly beating analyst expectations of $0.55 per share. New home orders were up 12% year-over-year on a unit basis. Lennar’s CEO, Stewart Miller, said “our homebuilding operations have gone from slow and steady to a faster than expected sales pace throughout our first quarter,” thanks to a combination of economic optimism, wage and job growth, and increasing consumer confidence.

D.R. Horton and PulteGroup (PHM) are expected to report Q2 earnings on April 20th. Both companies beat analyst’s revenue and earnings expectations last quarter. Looking at Figure 1 below, all three of the major U.S. homebuilders have outperformed the S&P 500 year-to-date.

This development will likely give battered mREITs like Annaly Capital (NYSE: NLY  ) , Armour Residential (NYSE: ARR  ) , and American Capital Agency (NASDAQ: AGNC  ) a huge boost as investors begin to feel less panic regarding a tapering of the current QE3 program. Markets have responded to the Summers announcement by soaring skyward, apparently feeling relief and confidence about the fate of the taper.

  • [By Amanda Alix]

It was just about one year ago that QE3 made its debut, and mortgage REITs, particularly agency-only players like Annaly Capital (NYSE: NLY  ) , Armour Residential (NYSE: ARR  ) , and American Capital Agency (NASDAQ: AGNC  ) began moaning about the increased competition for mortgage-backed securities guaranteed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Simon Property Group (SPG) is one of the biggest REITs, focusing on shopping malls and paying a 3 percent yield. But other specialty areas of the REIT universe pay much higher dividends, with REITs like Annaly Capital (NLY) that invest in mortgage-backed securities topping the list with double-digit percentage yields.

ILS As An Uncorrelated Asset

Insurance-linked securities (ILS) are an asset class in which a security’s return is contingent upon an insurance event. A prime example of an ILS is a catastrophe bond. Cat bonds pay a coupon to the investor unless a specific catastrophe trigger (think large hurricanes and earthquakes) occurs. Most ILS are unavailable to retail investors and trade with relative illiquidity. However, ILS is an appealing asset to hold within the context of a larger portfolio, as its performance is completely unrelated to the greater economy.

Yesterday, small cap cannabinoid prodrug pharmaceutical stock Vitality Biopharma, Inc. (OTCQB: VBIO) announcedthe filing of an international patent application that describes compounds discovered to be effective for neural repair treatments. The underlying patent rights were assigned to Vitality Biopharma in March 2016 and are based on work performed by the Myelin Repair Foundation (MRF) -a non-profit disease research organization that was dedicated to developing regenerative therapies for multiple sclerosis.

That’s why its worth pointing out that just yesterday, small cap cannabinoid prodrug pharmaceutical stock Vitality Biopharma, Inc. (OTCQB: VBIO) announced the appointment of Tracy Rockney, J.D. to the position of Senior Regulatory Advisor. In addition to being the Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer of OneSource Regulatory, a regulatory consulting firm, Rockney was previously:

Investors who were looking to learn a little more about up-and-coming drug development company Vitality Biopharma Inc (OTCMKTS:VBIO) may want to mark December 8th on their calendar…. if they’re going to be in the Los Angeles area that day anyway. The company will be making a presentation that day, at the annual LD Micro Main Event. Interested and approved investors can attend the VBIO presentation by registering beforehand with LD Micro.

Vitality Biopharma has found a way to make cannabinoid-based pharmaceuticals without the usual downside of cannabinoids. Namely, Vitality Biopharma’s version of cannabinoids are non-psychotropic, meaning larger, more effective dosing is possible without the ‘high’. It’s this little detail that takes cannabinoid medicine — already the most compelling frontier in the world of pharma — to the next level. There’s a reason some people think the cannabinoid market could be worth $20 billion by 2020.

The idea was significantly advanced in early November. In eight of the nine states voters were asked about legalization of marijuana (for one reason or another), voters said yes….. four for recreational use, and four for medical use. In eight of those nine states, the measures passed. Marijuana is legal in more than half the United States now, and we’re en route to a decided majority in the foreseeable future.

VBIO didn’t necessarily need a sweeping victory at the ballot box, but each time marijuana wins, it seems to advance the discussion of the power of cannabinoids as medicine.

Investors will be able to learn more about Vitality Biopharma’s work in that arena on Thursday of this week. On that day — 8 AM PST / 11 AM EST — at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Robert Brooke, CEO of Vitality Biopharma, will be making a presentation as well as meeting with current and prospective investors.

LD Micro was founded in 2006 with the sole purpose of being an independent resource in t

In mid-September, Vitality Biopharma Inc (OTCMKTS:VBIO) announced it was going to take aim at the development of an alternative to opioids as a means of treating pain. At the time, there was little doubt that the company’s cannabinoid science was capable of doing so. What wasn’t clear to VBIO shareholders was exactly how that might happen…. meaning what sort of drug might Vitality Biopharma come up with.

We got the first of what will likely be several answers to the question today. Per today’s press release, Vitality Biopharma intends to come up with a treatment for narcotic bowel syndrome, which is a severe form of (ironically enough) opiate-induced abdominal pain.

As a refresher, Vitality Biopharma was the name we introduced to you back on August 8th, pointing out it had developed a whole new way of making cannabinoid-based medicines. Their versions offer all the upsides of cannabinoids, but without the psychotropic (“getting high’) effects, and without some of the common downsides associated with these pharmaceuticals… like mouth and skin lesions.

There are even bigger advantages to Vitality Biopharma’s science, however. Namely, since these drugs are prodrugs and aren’t activated until in the body, they allow for targeted delivery to the GI tract (yet can also selectively target other body parts, even as far away from the GI tract as the brain). Perhaps more than anything though, these drugs are orally-administered by virtue of being highly soluble, making them easy to use.

It’s this nuance that makes Vitality Biopharma’s recently-announced intention so interesting, and compelling.

Studies have found that up to 81% of patients treated with opiates have functional bowel disorders, with more than half — 58% to be exact — of opiate users reporting chronic abdominal pain stemming from the use of their prescribed painkillers. Considering 200 million opioid prescriptions are filled every year in the United States alo

Jazz Pharmaceuticals (JAZZ) is trading up nearly 9% Thursday, thanks to its settlement with Hikma Pharmaceuticals over the firms patent dispute.

As part of the agreement, Hikma will get to sell a generic version of the drug in question, narcolepsy treatment Xyrem, in 2023, for up to five years, while Jazz will get royalties on those sales.

Janney Montgomery Scotts Ken Trbovich upgraded the shares from Neutral to Buy on the news, and also increased his price target from $138 to $175. From his note:

While this comes about three years earlier than previous settlements with other generic filers, it eliminates the risk of an earlier launch. Six months thereafter Hikma may launch its own generic and others may potentially be able to launch as well. Importantly, Jazz will receive a meaningful royalty on sales, retain the right to launch its own AG, and can authorize other AGs after the initial 6-month Hikma period.

Jazz shares are up 8.9% to $153.2o at recent check.

As details about the Pentagon’s plan have emerged, it’s become clear that this will be a sizable program, amounting to perhaps $1 trillion in spending over 30 years — not just to upgrade the Minuteman missiles, but also to buy new B-21 stealth bombers from Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC)and have General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) and Huntington Ingalls (NYSE:HII) design an entirely new class of ballistic missile submarines (to be known as the “Columbia class.”)
