Best Dividend Stocks To Own Right Now: Cummins Inc.(CMI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Making mining equipment has been a horrible business over the last few years. The industry has been hard-hit by the spending cutbacks at mine sites around the world. For example, BHP Billiton Limited trimmed its capital exploration expenditures by roughly 70% between fiscal 2013 and 2016. No wonder Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT), Komatsu Ltd. (NASDAQOTH:KMTUY), and Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI) have been hurting. Only that looks like it’s starting to change, which means this trio could be at the top of a list of mining equipment companies to buy in 2017.

Top 10 Dividend Stocks To Invest In 2018

In case you haven’t noticed, there has been a great deal of strength in the stock market during the past month. But the rebound isnt coming from the market leaders of the past several years. The high-flying growth stocks, especially in the tech sector, and the petroleum and resource stocks that once enjoyed great popularity have let many people down in recent months.

What is holding up well are the mundane stocks that many consider too boring to own, such as food, utilities, and other consumer staples that represent the needs rather than the wants of the population. These are just the type of stocks that we have always highlighted in relation to dividend reinvestment plans (DRIPs), a form of investing that was created out of the strength of well-known consumer brands companies like Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive and Kimberly-Clark, along with diversified industrials like 3M Company, Boeing and Raytheon. Even in the oil sector, the size and resources of Exxon Mobil make it stand out in sharp contrast to the master limited partnerships (MLPs) that have been decimated.

Ihor Dusaniwsky at S3 Partners writes:

RL short interest levels, already at historical highs today, should continue to grow if the recent trend continues, but having made almost 23% in 2016 and 14% in 2017, short sellers may be quick to cover their positions and lock in profits if RLs stock price turns against them.

Short interest in Ralph Lauren fell in 2016 as the stock price fella nd shorts covered positions, netting a return of 22.6%. So far this year, however, the short position as increased $226 million, or 38% to $815 million as of this morning, according to the S3 report.

Top 10 Dividend Stocks To Invest In 2018: Cummins Inc.(CMI)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Reuben Gregg Brewer]

Ever walk past a construction site? It’s hard not to be enthralled by all the heavy construction machinery moving things around. With the world’s developing economies still building at a relatively fast pace and developing economies, like the United States, in desperate need of upgrading their aging infrastructure, the companies behind that construction machinery could be just as exciting as a construction site in the years ahead. Which is why Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT), Cummins Inc. (NYSE:CMI), and Terex Corporation (NYSE:TEX) are three of the top construction machinery stocks to look at right now.

Best Medical Stocks To Watch For 2018

No good deed goes unpunished, as the saying goes. On first impression, that’s what happened to Dr. Robert McClendon, a Texas physician. He lent $100,000 to a business to cover its payroll. And then he got hit with a $4.3 million IRS penalty for the company’s payroll taxes, a penalty that was just upheld in court. But, as often happens with taxes, the situation is more complex. The business was Dr. McClendon’s, and sadly, one of his employees embezzled the payroll tax money.

The court concluded that Dr. McClendon was responsible, and acted willfully. You can be ‘willful’ under the tax law even if you didn’t have a bad motive or evil intent. Dr. McClendon was the owner of Family Practice, a medical services provider. Family Practice hired Richard Stephen as its CFO. By 2009, Family Practice owed over $10 million in unpaid payroll and other withholding taxes. Dr. McClendon learned that the taxes were unpaid on May 11, 2009. Mr. Stephen plead guilty to three counts of felony theft of money that he embezzled.

Best Medical Stocks To Watch For 2018: Critical Elements Corporation (CRECF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

ILC reminds me of Critical Elements [TSXV:CRE] (OTCQX:CRECF) having five projects (CRE has 11), and also of Galaxy Resources (ASX:GXY) (OTCPK:GALXF) by being diversified across brine and spodumene and across three continents. Also some similarity with Neo Lithium’s (OTC:NTTHF) [TSXV:NLC] early stage Argentinean brine project which I recently wrote about here. However, ILC trades at a much smaller market cap of US$8m to that of Critical Elements (US$85m) or Galaxy Resources (US$724m). This is partly due to ILC giving away significant percentages of their projects, and because they are still in the early stages of development.

Best Medical Stocks To Watch For 2018: Sonoco Products Company(SON)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Deutsche Bank’s Debbie Jones and team contend that Sonoco’s (SON) sale of its plastic-container business to Australia’s Amcor is a sign that M&A is in the offing. They explain why:

Sonoco announced (9/1) that it is selling its Rigid Plastics Blow Molding operations to Amcor (AMC.AU) for $280M. The transaction price represents a multiple of ~8.0x LTM EBITDA. The business had annual sales of ~$210M and consisted of six production sites in the US and one in Canada. Blow molding operations represented ~10% of Sonocos Consumer Packaging segment sales and EBITDA. The transaction is expected to close in Q4. We expect the proceeds to be used to for M&A focused in flexible packaging, thermoforming and temperature-assured packaging.

We dont believe Sonoco considered its blow molding operations essential to its growth strategy. This standalone business is also more capital intensive compared to some of its other plastic packaging businesses and SON held a small position in the overall market. Ultimately, the company decided it wants to focus its capital in higher growth platforms. We do not expect the divestment to reduce resin buying scale for Sonoco’s remaining assets given different resin buying. Note that with the divestiture of blow molding and the Canton closures plant (divested in Feb. 2015), this makes the ~$100M reels business the last standalone business in the portfolio, but we do not expect this to be divested in the near-term unless cash is needed for much larger M&A.

Shares of Sonoco have gained 1.3% to $52.49 at 2:12 p.m. today.

Hot Dividend Stocks To Buy For 2018

Wouldn’t it be nice to own Herald Square? Wouldn’t it be nicer to own Herald Square for free? How about Union Square in San Francisco? When I run some calculations, it appears to me that in a leveraged buyout of Macy’s (NYSE:M) this could be achieved. It wouldn’t even be that difficult actually. The LBO could be 100% debt funded and the interest expense could come almost entirely out of eliminating the dividend. Assets could be sold, the business could be wound down, and in the end, there’s Herald Square and Union Square, the $5 billion trophy properties, for free.

Best Performing Stocks To Own For 2018

Spanish banks have done alright over the past year, with BBVA (BBVA), Santander (SAN), and Caixa (OTCPK:CAIXY) all up between 20% and 30%, in line with other well-liked European banks like ING (ING), and well ahead of some of their other large European peers. Even with the turbulence in Catalonia, economic conditions have been improving in Spain, and with that so has credit quality. Whats more, both BBVA and Santander have gotten a little more proactive about selling underperforming assets.

While BBVA has done fine over the past year, there could still be a little upside left in the shares. Even though I dont think BBVA will get to the psychologically important 10% ROE level for a few years, I do expect double-digit earnings growth over the next five years and high single-digit growth over the long term, supporting a fair value around $9/ADR.

Spain Still Turbulent

While Spain remains a large portion of BBVAs loan book (around 45%) and risk-weighted assets (around one-third), it still only contributes less than 20% of earnings, as the bank (and the country) continues to dig itself out of a deep hole created by the property and mortgage collapse roughly a decade ago.

Best Performing Stocks To Own For 2018: Uni-Pixel, Inc.(UNXL)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Uni-Pixel (UNXL) manufactures electronic film products using its proprietary manufacturing process, UniBoss. This stock closed up 7.6% to $16.84 in Monday’s trading session.

    Monday’s Volume: 1.88 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 1 million

    Volume % Change: 108%

From a technical perspective, UNXL bounced sharply higher here right off its 50-day moving average of $15.89 with above-average volume. This stock looks to be forming a double bottom chart pattern at $14.91 to $15.16. If that bottom holds, then shares of UNXL could see a continuation of Monday’s upside action.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in UNXL as long as it’s trending above $15.16 or $14.91 and then once it sustains a move or close above Monday’s high of $17.53 with volume that hits near or above 1 million shares. If we get that move soon, then UNXL will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance level at its 200-day moving average of $19.89.

Small cap sensor film stock UniPixel Inc (NASDAQ: UNXL) is sinking by a double digit percentage in after-hours and pre-market trading after reporting Q4 earnings. Best Dividend Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Introduction

I decided to test my “Better than Average” stock selection system on US restaurant stocks which pay a dividend. You might wonder why I picked the US restaurant sector, which is certainly facing headwinds: a stagnant economy resulting in declining restaurant visits, increasing costs from upward minimum wage pressure and a very competitive market (discounted prices and lots of choices for customers). Since the beginning of 2016, the S&P 500 index has increased 6.4% but a basket of 51 US restaurant stocks has decreased 6.9%. If we look at the subset of the 22 dividend-paying restaurant stocks, their average price has increased 8.4%, while the subset of 29 non-dividend-paying stocks has decreased 18.6% in price. The following chart illustrates the importance of differentiating between dividend-paying and non-dividend-paying US restaurant stocks when evaluating performance. There are a number of very troubled companies in the non-dividend-paying group.

  • [By Darren Williams] Although the entire cannabis space has quietly taken a hit of their own medicine in recent weeks and gone to sleep, don’t think for one second the entire space isn’t going to light up again soon. That’s just what they do, right? However, knowing who the pretenders are and knowing who the contenders are is really the challenge when it’s comes right down to it.
First, anyone who claims to be a grower or a seller of cannabis can’t for one second ever make it as a public company right now, or can even legally consider being a public company for that matter, so you can scratch any of those right off your list. At least here in the U.S. anyway, because Canada is already well ahead of the curve having legalized it for medicinal purposes already.
More importantly, full legalization of marijuana in Canada appears to be on track for July 2018, which will make Canada just the second nation in the world after Uruguay to completely legalize the cultivation, sale and possession of the drug for medical and recreational purposes.
Regardless, the best time to buy any stocks in a hot growth sector is when either everyone has forgotten about them, or when the overall market landscape has turned bearish, which has yet to happen. However, the former seems to be the case for the cannabis space, despite some very favorable state legislation last Fall.
For now, as long as you have a license issued by Health Canada, you’re good to go, so there are some stocks trading in Canada already who are well on their way to making some green for investors. Top 10 Dividend Stocks To Buy For 2018

Energy companies reported earnings in droves this week, and the results were fairly encouraging. Where did the strength lie?

Higher oil prices vis–vis the year-ago quarter helped in part, while the prudence these companies have been exercising in conserving cash and reining in costs are also responsible for the upside.

Does this bode well for energy stocks, which have had a stellar run in 2016?

The S&P 500 Energy (Sector) advanced about 24 percent in 2016, although it has lost 12 percent in the year-to-date period. Will the earnings momentum help to reignite the rally in the space?

Oil Cools Off After Being On The Boil In 2016

To understand this, we may have to look at how oil prices have been behaving. In 2016, oil prices ran up 45 percent after being bearish in 2014 and 2015. With lower oil prices hurting revenues, most oil companies resorted to cost cuts to shore up their bottom line. Capital spending budgets were slashed ruthlessly, which helped these companies to preserve the cash flow and maintain their dividend payouts.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo, Tyler Crowe, and Jason Hall]

Oil prices haven’t gotten off to the fast start many expected, falling around 6% on average during the first quarter of the year. That slump came despite OPEC’s best efforts since producing nations have achieved fairly good compliance on their planned output cuts. That said, despite the lackluster oil market, we still see some interestingopportunities in the oil market. Three stocks we really like right now are DistributionNOW(NYSE:DNOW),Phillips 66(NYSE:PSX), andConocoPhillips(NYSE:COP), which all should do well in the current oil market.

Pessimism, meanwhile, appears to be on the rise.

According to a report by the financial analytics company S3 Partners, short interest in Ralph Lauren has risen since the start of the year, hitting historical levels. And while that short position is expected to keep expanding, bearish sentiments could turn on a dime.

Its a profitable day for those short sellers. Todays 11% decline Ralph Laurens stock price on an $815 million short position has added $90 million to the short sellers collective bottom line.

Ralph Lauren is down 11.5% in recent market actions to $77.26 a after earlier falling as low as $76.86 a share. Thats the lowest price for the stock since 2010.
