Hot Low Price Stocks To Buy For 2018

In my very first MannKind article I offered for my SA readers, I made the following statement:

Wall Street gurus are always smarter than the retail investor that doesn’t do their homework.

I have mentioned several times that MannKind’s (NASDAQ:MNKD) management understands the reality and has done a remarkable job in keeping the company hooked up to a life support system that has allowed them to be one of the few (other than the short-sellers) to benefit from these four years of futility for the retail investors. In recent days, with the flurry of superfluous SEC filings and press releases this has only resulted in the stock falling to a near all-time low price. The time is neigh for this saga becoming history so we can close the books on this financial fiasco. It’s now clear who has done their homework on MannKind!

On Monday, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggested shorting women’s health stock Juniper Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: JNP):

Juniper Pharmaceuticals shares have yet to break under a key support level at $5.00. But, waiting until that happens may be too late. After some continued testing of that floor, if-and-when the support should break, the ensuing selloff could materialize in a hurry. If you’re not it at the time it happens, you may not be able to get in at a decent price.

Hot Low Price Stocks To Buy For 2018: TripAdvisor, Inc.(TRIP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Chris Lange]

The S&P 500 stock posting the largest daily percentage loss ahead of the close Tuesday was TripAdvisory, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRIP) which traded down about 23% at $30.35. The stocks 52-week range is $30.21 to $65.56. Volume was roughly29 million versus the daily average 3.1 million shares.

This next company comes as a surprise, as it is one that has served over 300 million people around the world…

Failing Company No. 3: TripAdvisor Inc. (Nasdaq: TRIP)

The website that changed the way user-generated content is used for travel is feeling the pressure from competition.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

TripAdvisor (TRIP) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today, a reversal of yesterday’s big gain following the news thatExpedia (EXPE) would participate in its Instant Booking program.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

    TripAdvisordropped 5.1% to $46.28 today, while the S&P 500 declined 0.3% to 2,265.18.

In a note published yesterday, SunTrust Robinson Humphrey’s Rodney Hull and team called the announcement a “positive for [the] platform” but worried about the fact that “shopper growth and monetization have been muted.” They explain:

Ultimately, TripAdvisor is seeking to improve its revenue per shopper which trails its OTA peers who earn 4-5x more per shopper by driving booking and repeat booking activity on their sites. On a positive note, TripAdvisor stated that US trends improved through the third quarter and that transaction revenue and rev/shopper turned positive in October. Further, green shoots in app bookings and vaulted credit cards are noteworthy. However, the dual headwinds of mobile and the IB transition continue to negatively impact financials as well as the “flywheel” for shopper growth and visibility into improving growth remains limited, aside from easing comps. We have a positive view of the company’s longer-term monetization opportunity, but we await further signs of inflection in growth and profitability, which may follow a larger ad campaign. Recall, the company reduced its margin outlook for 2017 on the 3Q call as it will likely look to increase paid marketing spend and invest revenue per shopper gains to restart the flywheel

TripAdvisor’s market capitalization fell to $6.7 billion today from $7.1 billion yesterday. It reported net income of $198 million on sales of $1.5 billion in 2015.

  • [By Chris Lange]

The stock posting the largest daily percentage gain in the S&P 500 ahead of the close Tuesday was TripAdvisor, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRIP) which rose over 4% to $44.55. The stocks 52-week range is $35.34 to $66.13. Volume was 2.8 million compared to its average volume of 2.9 million.

  • [By Paul Ausick]

TripAdvisor Inc. (NASDAQ: TRIP) dropped about 1.9% Monday, to post a new 52-week low of $41.81 after closing at $42.62 on Friday. The stock’s 52-week high is $71.69. Volume was about 50% above the daily average of around 2.5 million shares. The company had no specific news.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

TripAdvisor (TRIP) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after reporting earnings that came in well below the Street consensus.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

    TripAdvisordropped 11% to $46.92 today, while the S&P 500 dipped 0.1% to2,347.22.

Susquehanna’s Shyam Patil and team write that TripAdvisor’s “challenges persist.” They explain why:

4Q highlights another challenging quarter. Total revenue was $316m (up 2% y/y), 1% below our estimate of $320m and 3% below consensus of $327m. EBITDA of $58m (18.4% margins) was ~25% below our and the consensus estimate of $77m, caused by the revenue miss and higher opex (specifically S&M and G&A) vs. our model…

While we like TRIPs leading audience reach (on both mobile and desktop) and breadth of travel content, we believe the traffic mix shift to mobile combined with the transition to instant book (IB) will continue to weigh on monetization and cause near-term volatility in the numbers. TRIP is prioritizing revenue growth over profits this year, and management expects to drive double-digit revenue growth but at the expense of significant margin deleverage and absolute EBITDA declines. Additionally, EBITDA could decline further, if TRIP decides to do TV advertising, which is currently not in our estimates or managements outlook. Given these issues, forecasting remains challenging and we continue to have little confidence in estimates.

TripAdvisor’s market capitalization fell to $6.8 billion today from $7.6 billion yesterday.

Hot Low Price Stocks To Buy For 2018: Phillips 66(PSX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Virendra Singh Chauhan]

Another piece of the Berkshire puzzle which could ride a tailwind is the investment in oil major Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX). With OPEC recently making a move to support oil prices with supply cuts, a rising oil price will benefit the oil major which made up just over 5% of Berkshire’s stock holdings at the end of the September quarter. PSX stock price is up 11% over the last one month and could be headed further higher if the demand/supplydynamics of the oil market are brought under control. The six companies that met the criterion are:

    Oshkosh

Oshkosh is a manufacturer of specialty vehicles and vehicle bodies and is based in Wisconsin. The company operates under four business segments, namely access equipment, defense, fire and emergency, and commercial.

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

After facing several challenges in 2016 that pushed down results, Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) bounced back big-time in the first quarter. The company trounced the consensus estimate by a whopping $0.51 per share, which was roughly 10 times higher than the $0.05 per share analysts expected.

What happened

Shares of Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY), a U.S. drug giant that’s primarily focused on oncology, cardiovascular, and immunoscience therapies, catapulted higher by 15% during February, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence. The jump in Bristol-Myers’ stock can mostly be attributed to increasing chatter regarding the potential for a buyout.

So what

The real surge in Bristol-Myers’ shares began on Valentine’s Day,when rumors started that Roche, Novartis, and Pfizer were actively exploring the idea of taking over Bristol-Myers, and Gilead Scienceswas tinkering with the idea.

Remember, Bristol-Myers Squibb’s stock took a beating after blockbuster cancer immunotherapy drug Opdivo failed to even come close to reaching its primary endpoint in treatment-naive advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients whose tumors had at least 5% PD-L1 expression (the CheckMate-026 trial). This failure, and the subsequent success of Merck’scompeting cancer immunotherapy Keytruda in a similar indication (greater than 50% PD-L1 expression), shaved billions off Opdivo’s peak sales estimates.

good buy stocks: Summit Midstream Partners, LP(SMLP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew DiLallo]

More often than not, when a company’s dividend starts approaching 10%, it’susually a sign that the market expects the payout to head lower in the very near future. However, for Summit Midstream Partners (NYSE:SMLP), that doesn’t appear to be the case. That’s because the pipeline and processing company can cover its payout with plenty of room to spare. In fact, it could actually resume distribution growth by year-end. While the company does have a large financial hurdle to overcome in the future, it has plenty of time to find a solution other than cutting the distribution.

good buy stocks: Galapagos NV(GLPG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By David Zeiler]

Bill Patalon’s initial stock pick was Galapagos NV (Nasdaq ADR: GLPG), a Belgian biotech company.

Patalon was attracted to Galapagos’ strategy to target “orphan diseases,” afflictions that strike rarely and so often go ignored by the Big Pharma companies. He also liked that Galapagos had more than 50 drug discovery programs underway, and that it already had licensing agreements with several bigger players in the industry.

  • [By Stephen Mack]

Galapagos NV (Nasdaq: GLPG) is our big winner so far, gaining 578.8% since Money Morning Executive Editor Bill Patalon shared his recommendation with Money Morning readers in April 2012. The S&P 500 has gained 75.4% in the same time. Bill has renewed his recommendation for the Belgian biotech several times over the years, saying in 2016 that it has “an established history of piling on gains.” With an average gain of 110% a year, it’s hard to argue with that.

Top Energy Stocks To Watch Right Now

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported Wednesday morning that U.S. natural gas stocks decreased by 46 billion cubic feet for the week ending November 17. Analysts were expecting a storage withdrawal of around 51 billion cubic feet. The five-year average for the week is a withdrawal of 26 billion cubic feet and last year’s storage withdrawal for the week totaled 2 billion cubic feet. Natural gas inventories fell by 18 billion cubic feet in the week ending November 10.

Natural gas futures for December delivery traded down about 1.5% in advance of the EIA’s report, at around $2.97 per million BTUs and traded at about $2.96 shortly after the report was released. The highest close for the past five trading days was registered last Friday at $3.10. The 52-week range for natural gas is $2.85 to $3.75. One year ago the price for a million BTUs was around $3.08.

Demand for the coming week is expected to be moderate as a cold front moving through the Midwest and Northeast will cause temperatures to fall over the next couple of days. The West and South are expected to post warmer temperatures outside the Pacific Northwest. Mild weather is expected in the east central states later this week before turning cooler early next week.

After the bell on Monday, Casey’s General Stores (CASY) announced its fiscal Q1 earnings, posting a strong increase in profits and overall revenues compared to the same time period last year.

The Ankeny, IA-based convenience store company announced quarterly revenues of $2.11 billion, which were up from $1.87 billion in last year’s same quarter. Profits for the company came in at $55.71 million, or $1.43 per share, compared to $39.03 million, or $1.01 per share, in last year’s Q1.

Both of these figures beat analysts’ estimates, which were EPS of $1.26 on revenues of $2.1 billion.

CASY shares were up $1.01, or 1.49%, at market close on Monday. YTD, the stock is up more than 26%.

  • [By Brian Stoffel]

For a number of years,Casey’s General Stores (NASDAQ:CASY) investors were rewarded by the small-town convenience chain’s decision to become a major vendor of pizza and other prepared foods. But with that success has come increased competition. Combined with somewhat stagnant economies in the areas that Casey’s operates — namely, towns of less than 5,000 people in middle America — the company has had trouble meeting its own expectations. That trend continued on Monday night when Casey’s announced earnings for the third quarter of its fiscal year.

Its been a mighty weird year for Caseys General Stores (CASY). The company has had some tough quarters, but just when things are looking bleak, the team got some runners on base and drove a few home.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding Fox News host Bill O’Reilly.

In an interview with The New York Times, Trump defended O’Reilly against new revelations that he, Fox News and parent company 21st Century Fox had paid a total of $13 million in settlements to five women who accused him of sexual harassment or verbal abuse.

“I think he’s a person I know well he is a good person,” Trump told the Times. “I think he shouldn’t have settled; personally I think he shouldn’t have settled. Because you should have taken it all the way. I don’t think Bill did anything wrong.”

O’Reilly has denied the merits of all the claims against him, 21st Century Fox said in a statement.

Trump had his own run-in with sexual harassment accusations last October, after an Access Hollywood tape surfaced in which he said he grabbed women by their genitals. “I don’t even wait,” Trump can be heard saying in the tape. “And when you’re a star, they let you do it, you can do anything.”

best stocks to buy today: Peugeot S.A. (PUGOY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By John Rosevear]

It’s official: General Motors (NYSE:GM) will sell its long-troubled Opel subsidiary to French automaker Peugeot S.A. (NASDAQOTH:PUGOY) for about $2.3 billion, in a deal expected to close later this year.

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

Yes, you read that correct! General Motors (NYSE: GM) will probably not settle for just a new 52-week high and will aim to take out the 2013 peak of $41.85. With talks about the Opel sellout to PSA Group (OTCPK:PEUGF) (OTCPK:PUGOY) progressing at a rate much faster than I had anticipated, a (likely) deal announcement on Monday will pave the way for new all-time highs.

Now, the General is thinking about ditching Europe for good by selling its European operations to French automaker Peugeot (NASDAQOTH:PUGOY). As long as Peugeot is willing to pay a reasonable price, selling Opel is GM’s best course of action.

Investing in the tech sector can be tricky. Competition tends to be fierce, which makes it difficult to stay one step ahead. Two companies that have a strong history of maintaining their edge are Skyworks Solutions(NASDAQ:SWKS)and Infinera(NASDAQ:INFN). Both of these businesses have been taking market share in their industries for years, which is impressive. But which of these two tech companies is the better investment today? Let’s review the bull thesis for each company so we can make an informed decision.

  • [By Billy Duberstein]

What a year 2016 was for Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN) shareholders. The stock plunged over 50% last year, as its multiyear run of accelerating 20%-30% growth rates ground to a halt. The story changed from that of a high-growth technology company riding the secular trend of exploding data and bandwidth needs to one of stagnating revenues, profits turning to losses, increased competition, and end customers pausing investments in optical networks.
