The Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration has rattled the restaurant industry and the millions of foreign-born workers it relies on.

But it’s the industry’s undocumented workforce that is feeling particularly vulnerable.

Many of these workers live in fear of getting deported and are too afraid to speak out or report workplace violations of things like wage or labor laws, said Penny Bradshaw, an immigration attorney at Costangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, LLP in North Carolina.

Second only to construction when it comes to its reliance on undocumented workers, the restaurant industry employed some 1.1 million undocumented workers in 2014, according to a Pew Research study.

To help protect these workers, Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (also known as ROC United), a national advocacy group for restaurant workers, has teamed up with restaurant owners across the U.S. to form the sanctuary restaurant movement.

Shares of Marathon Oil jumped 21% to $18.06, while the S&P 500 fell 0.3% to 2,198.81, and the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) climbed 5.1% to $74.43.

In a note published on Nov. 21, Morgan Stanley’sEvan Calio and team named Marathon Oil as one of the four stocks they expected to outperform if OPEC actually delivered a production cut:

Beta Should Lead At The Start of A Rally: Best ideas in the first leg up: Marathon Oil, Devon Energy (DVN), Anadarko Petroleum (APC), and Continental Resources (CLR). If OPEC announces a cut, whether moderate or deep, we expect that in the initial move up, moderate value beta names, like Marathon Oil, Devon Energy, Anadarko Petroleum, andContinental Resources will lead. For a $5 increase in oil prices, we estimate 2017 cash flow per share would increase 12-18% for these stocks vs. the remainder of the group at 12%. Of these four, short interest is modest for all exceptContinental Resources at 25%, among the highest in our universe. Outperformance of these names should be driven by investors adding to long positions, not short covering.

Good call. Not only did Marathon soar, but Devon Energy jumped 15% to $48.33, Anadarko Petroleum climbed 15% to $69.15, and Continental Resources surged 23% to $58.01.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Rick Munarriz]

There are a lot of people betting against Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI)these days, even as the stock is hitting 10-year highs. There were 280.1 million shares of Sirius XM sold short at the end of 2016, just below the late-November peak of 285.1 million shares but nearly double the short interest that we were seeing a year ago.

A long term performance chart shows Pandora Mediapeaking in 2014 before heading back to where it started while other streaming media stocks such as large cap satellite radio stockSirius XM Radio Inc (NASDAQ: SIRI) has performed better and InternetTV stock Netflix, Inc (NASDAQ: NFLX) has been a homerun:

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

The long saga regarding Pandora Media Inc. (NYSE: P) has finally come to a head. Well, maybe. Rather than KKR & Co. L.P. (NYSE: KKR) investing $150 million, Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: SIRI) will be investing up to $480 million in the streaming music rival. With its ticketing unit sale taking place as well, it might seem that Pandora is getting a great deal and helping to bolster its books.

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: SIRI) is a company that thrives on of new car sales. If you have had satellite radio and are not solely reliant on what you get for music in streaming or your library, then chances are pretty good that you won’t want to go back to just having old-fashioned FM/AM radio.

Top 5 Oil Stocks For 2018

What happened

Shares of Southwestern Energy (NYSE:SWN) fell sharply on Friday, and were down more than 11% by 3:00 p.m. EST. Fueling today’s sell-off was the company’s fourth-quarter results and 2017 guidance.

So what

On the one hand, Southwestern Energy’s fourth-quarter results marked quite a turnaround for the company. That’s after it reported adjusted net income of $39 million, or $0.08 per share, which was a significant improvement from last year’s $6 million loss. However, analysts were expecting $0.04 per share more. The culprit was the company’s declining production, which fell during the quarter due to its decision to limit drilling activities last year because of lower gas prices and balance sheet issues.

Those two factors also caused the company to report a decline in proved oil and gas reserves. Southwestern ended 2016 with 5,253 billions of cubic feet equivalent (Bcfe) of proved reserves, down from 6,215 Bcfe at the end of 2015. On a more positive note, the company did partially offset that decline with upward performance revisions and successful development activity in Northeast and Southwest Appalachia, as well as in the Fayetteville Shale.

Cramer: When Even Wells Fargo Gains, Bank Stock Must Be Roaring

Posted on Nov. 17 at 11:43 a.m. EDT

The banks are on fire again Thursday. They are growing off the notion of faster growth in 2017, the deregulation that’s coming and the notion of multiple rate hikes.

I am just putting this note out ahead of our Action Alerts PLUS conference call to say this kind of shallow dip buying confirms what I wrote earlier, which is that we can’t be penny-wise. You simply may not get that large dip the more that we realize that the out-of-control compliance costs could be going away at the same time the rate hikes may be coming.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The stock market lost ground on Monday, sending major market benchmarks lower by more than half a percentage point. The Dow lost its grip on the 20,000 mark in the wake of concerns about economic growth and new U.S. immigration policy, and some believe that the broader geopolitical climate could have a negative impact on global commerce that in turn could start affecting multinational corporations’ business prospects. In addition, bad news from some individual companies weighed on the markets, and Transocean (NYSE:RIG), Rite Aid (NYSE:RAD), and New Gold (NYSEMKT:NGD) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

Then, of course, theres the inconvenient fact that WTI Crude Oil itself is hopelessly stuck in the low $50 a
barrel range a level at which it was trading in June of last year. Essentially seven months without any forward progress is the bottom line.

Transocean’s market capitalization fell to $5.4 billion today from $5.8 billion on Friday. It reported net income of $782 million on sales of $7.4 billion in 2015.
