Whirlpool CEO Jeff Fettig blamed the confidence-sapping U.S. election and the plunge in the value of the British pound for the companys disappointing third quarter earnings, and predicted that the appliance-makers woes would be short-lived.

Whirlpool shares fell as much as 13% on Tuesday after the company posted earnings per share of $3.66, versus expectations for $3.86, according to FactSet. The company lowered its full-year core EPS guidance to $14-$14.25 from $14.25-$14.75.

In a market like this, a perceived miss means youre gonna have a reaction, he said in an interview with Barrons after earnings were released. Its usually temporary. I suspect this will be as well. At this level were hugely undervalued.

The companys costs in the U.K. jumped because of the weakness of the currency there since Brexit, which made appliances they imported from other countries more expensive (about 85% of the appliances they sell in U.K. are imported). When Whirlpool adjusted by raising prices in Britain, customers initially balked, Fettig said. The currency drop and demand weakness caused earnings to fall by $40 million sapping about 40 cents per share from profits, he said.

Top 10 Undervalued Stocks To Buy Right Now: Columbia Sportswear Company(COLM)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Looking at recent historical deals, we arrive at a $18-$23 potential deal range. We analyzed transactions that have been announced over the past four years and involved companies catering to a higher income customer. These deals include Southern Tide (acquired by Oxford Industries (OXM)), Joe’s Jeans (acquired by Sequential Brands Group (SQBG)), prAna (acquired by Columbia Sportswear (COLM)), The Jones Group (acquired by Sycamore Partners [private] and Juicy Couture (acquired by Authentic Brands Group [private]). The average EV/EBITDA multiple of these transactions are 12.9x (in line with KATE’s 5-year historical average of 12.1x) and implies a potential deal range of $22-$23. When taking the average of recent (F13-16) deals implies an ~10.5x EV/EBITDA multiple. When applying the ~10.5x multiples to KATE’s trailing EBITDA, we arrive at an $18- $19 potential share price.

The S&P 500 is celebrating 60 years of existence as an index. Launched on March 4, 1957, it consists of an assortment of stocks belonging to diverse sectors and is considered a bellwether for the U.S. economy.

Some Curious Facts About the S&P 500
The index is weighted by market capitalization, which is price multiplied by outstanding shares of the constituent stocks. In contrast, the Dow Industrials is weighted exclusively by price.
The eligibility criteria for a stock to be included in the S&P 500 Index include a market cap of $5.3 billion, U.S. headquarters, at least half a year since its IPO and four straight quarters of positive reported earnings.
The worst annual performance of the index was in 2008, when it lost 38.5 percent.
Priceline Group Inc (NASDAQ: PCLN) was the first $1000+ member of the S&P 500 Index, having scaled the barrier in 2013.

Even as we weigh in the merits of the broader gauge, let's look at some of the market innovations that can claim to be younger than the S&P 500 index itself.

Buffett sold a large portion of his stake in Munich Re (HAM:MUV2) in 2015 citing a terrible outlook for the reinsurance business. A year and a half later, it’s clear he would have made continued to profit on the stock if he had held it, but it is unclear how long that will last and whether his vision is still to come true.

The CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A)(BRK.B) held more than 10% of Munich Re, one of the world’s largest reinsurers with 50 billion euros in revenue, since 2010 and at one point held around 12% of the company. Munich Re’s stock in October 2010 started around $103.65 per share, but Buffett’s annual letter from that year showed that he paid roughly $150 per share for the entire 19,259,600-share holding with a total cost of $2.896 billion.

Signing a mortgage is quite the commitment. Not only are you locked into what could be a sizable monthly payment, but you’re also pledging to continue paying that amount every month for up 30 years of your life.

And while paying off a mortgage early is easier said than done, here are a few good reasons to eliminate that debt sooner than you technically have to.

1. You’ll have less financial stress in retirement

Countless seniors struggle to pay the bills in retirement, so much so that an estimated 25 million of them live below the poverty line. Since housing is one of the greatest expenses seniors face, it stands to reason that taking your mortgage payment out of the mix can make for a more financially secure retirement.

Unfortunately, a growing number of seniors are struggling to shake their housing debt. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 30% of homeowners 65 and older (roughly 6.5 million people) enter retirement with mortgage debt. Worse yet, Federal Reserve data indicates that 21% of seniors 75 and over remain saddled with mortgage debt. While paying off your mortgage early won’t eliminate your housing costs entirely in retirement you’ll still have property taxes, insurance, and maintenance to deal with it will ease the burden at a time in your life when money is limited.

investing in bonds: Snap Inc. (SNAP)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Vikram Nagarkar]

We’ve all been talking about how Facebook (NASDAQ:FB)has been going after Snap Inc (NYSE:SNAP), replicating its innovative features and in effect stalling user growth on the platform. There’s not much user growth to speak of on Twitter, and arguably, there isn’t too much innovation either in terms of the product. So, when big guys like Amazon go after the niche audience that does love a platform like Twitter, it can be quite unnerving. What’s more, it’s not the big guys alone. There are small players likeMastodon, which is aimed at being an “actually viable alternative to Twitter”. My colleague covered this in a recent post covering Twitter. And apparently, it’s already quite popular. To be honest, we don’t think Twitter will die anytime soon. However, it’s hard to see how Twitter will be anything more than it is today – a compelling hobby for under 5% of the world’s population.

  • [By Alex McGuire]

Plus, the underwriters and institutional investors on Wall Street were able to purchase Snap shares at the IPO price of $17. But retail investors had to wait until SNAP stock debuted at $24 to buy in. After shares of Snap Inc. (NYSE: SNAP) dropped 23.2% to $17.67 after Q1 earnings were announced yesterday, retail investors who bought in at the open are looking at losses of 26%. The underwriters are still up 3.9% from the price they bought in at.

  • [By Evan Niu, CFA]

Unfortunately, it appears that Snap (NYSE:SNAP) CEO Evan Spiegel is unwilling to do just that. The Information is reporting new details about Snapchat’s growth woes. When confronted with hard data last year that user growth was decelerating rapidly, Spiegel “initially refused to accept there was a growth problem at all,” according to the report. The young executive insisted that the data was misleading, and that the real culprit was a decision to deactivate an older version of Snapchat’s Android app.

Najarian has a long position in the name and he is planning to hold it for a week.

Top Clean Energy Stocks To Watch For 2018

Back in September, Vitality Biopharma Inc (OTCMKTS:VBIO) CEO Robert Brooke officially announced his company would be entering the painkiller market, specifically taking aim at the development of an alternative to opioids. His specific words? “Opiates are one of the key classes of drugs we’re seeking to replace, or to make far less necessary, as our proprietary cannabosides could provide a potent alternative form of pain relief and help avoid, or greatly reduce, the use of opiates for the treatment of many conditions…”

The need is tremendous. Brooke’s letter/announcement went on to explain that roughly 80% of heroin users developed a drug habit starting with prescription opioid pain killers.

The timing was uncanny, for VBIO shareholders. A few days following the release of Brooke’s decision to take the company in new direction, Fox News published a story entitled “Medical marijuana programs may help cut opioid use.” It widely confirmed — and legitimized — the bulk of everything Brooke knows, and said. Namely, the Fox News story offered some encouraging data on the potential of medical marijuana…cannabis as an alternative painkiller in particular. Specifically, the commentary cited data from a recent submission to the American Journal of Public Health, which explained “The researchers found that the rates of opioid use decreased in adults ages 21 to 40 in states that had legalized medical marijuana and where residents with prescriptions could obtain cannabis from dispensaries or grow their own, compared to states that had legalized medical marijuana but did not yet have an operational program for people to obtain it.”

     52-week high: $18.93

    52-week low: $11.01

    Annual revenues: $492.9 million

Xerium Technologies (XRM), a manufacturer of products used in papermaking, is a favorite of micro-cap expert Dan Abramowitz, who heads Hillson Financial Management, in Rockville, Md. Abramowitz calls the company “a turnaround story that is now at an inflection point.” Changes that a new management team put into effect in 2012 should start bearing fruit. The stock’s price-earnings ratio is a mere 7, based on the average of analysts’ earnings estimates for 2016.
