When Nelson Mandela was released from a 27-year prison term in 1990, with much of it spent doing hard labor and virtually no contact with family or the rest of the outside world, he could have easily emerged a bitter man bent on revenge. Yet his response to this imprisonment, and to the institutionalized oppression he experienced beforehand, was to forgive—though not to forget—and move forward. After he was elected President of South Africa, Mandela traveled the world to tout his country on many levels, including one that welcomed international investors.

So, why should you consider investing in South Africa? If you’re an active investor (i.e., an investor who selects where and when to invest in an attempt to beat the market), then you should probably visit the country to conduct some thorough due diligence. I’ve had the privilege of visiting the country seven times over the past five years, and my guess is that, like me, you’ll be impressed with the investment potential of this country.

Top 5 Safest Stocks To Own For 2018: Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc.(SKT)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Shauna O’Brien]

Jefferies announced on Wednesday that it has cut its rating on Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. (SKT).

The firm has downgraded SKT from “Buy” to “Hold,” and has lowered the company’s price target from $40 to $35. This price target suggests an 8% upside from the stock’s current price of $32.22.

Analyst Omotayo Okusanya commented: “We expect near-term headwinds for the mall and outlet mall segment as tenant sales growth appears to be slowing.”

“At SKT, development yields on two projects have also been reduced. Further, rising interest rates negatively impact our DDM-derived PT. Our lowered PT of $35 represents a 10% total return over the next-twelve-months (NTM); we are downgrading to Hold,” added the analyst.

Tanger Factory Outlet shares were mostly flat during pre-market trading Wednesday. The stock is up more than 5% YTD.

The global diamond trade is slowing, and the world’s top supplier is blaming India’s crackdown on illicit cash.

De Beers’ sales of rough diamonds dropped to $418 million from $476 million over the past month, according to data from parent company Anglo American (AAUKF). That decline, the company said, is mainly because India decided to ban 500 and 1,000 rupee notes its two largest on Nov. 8.

“The trade in lower value rough diamonds is experiencing a temporary slowdown as a result of the demonetisation program in India,” De Beers CEO Bruce Cleaver said in a statement.

India has one of the fastest growing diamond markets in the world, according to a report last week by Bain & Company. The consultants said India was likely to surpass Europe and Japan to become the world’s third-largest diamond market by 2020.

But it’s also a country heavily dependent on paper currency, with over 90% of transactions taking place in cash. It’s not uncommon for Indians to purchase valuable jewelry, including gold and diamonds, with big bundles of rupee notes.

Fear in U.S. stocks just hit a 24-year low, according to the market's "fear gauge."   So… is it time to sell based on this indicator? Is this a sign of a top in U.S. stocks?   In short, surprisingly, NO.   Let me explain…   Last week, the CBOE Volatility Index ("VIX") fell to less than 10. It's at its lowest level since 1993.   In short – volatility is low… And that means investor fear is low.   Markets typically bottom when fear is high – the opposite of where it is today. But you can't use this gauge to call the top as well.   I learned this lesson from a smart hedge-fund manager…   Years ago, I worked for a billion-dollar hedge fund in New York. While there, I brought up this very idea… I suggested to him that the VIX was low – and it had been low for an incredibly long period of time.

Top Casino Stocks To Buy For 2018

Amaya’s stock has been on a wild roller coaster ride this year, with catalysts ranging from the CEO (David Baazov) being accused of insider trading, to takeover rumors, to failed mergers and now a formal bid by the aforementioned CEO. There have certainly been a lot of hopes and headaches, but I believe there is a strong underlining long case to be made on Amaya. I wrote a blog post about it the day before it released its Q3 earnings, my basic argument was that it is intrinsically undervalued due to market overreaction on merger discussions and there was still the possibility of a buyout by the former CEO at a significant upside. It seemed like a win-win. Well, when the earnings were released, not only were the results impressive but Baazov launched a formal bid at C$24 per share (approximately US$18) or a 30% upside from the previous Friday’s Close. Whether this private takeover succeeds or not, this stock is poised for significant long term growth.

Amaya (NASDAQ:AYA) runs the world’s largest online gaming (casino) empire in the world. It runs many valuable brand names especially in the online poker business (PokerStars and Fulltilt) but is now increasingly moving into sports betting and other online casino games. It is also the fastest growing and most well positioned to take advantage of online gambling legalization as well as the inherent scalability of the internet. This is a company which has seen its revenues increase from below US$200M just a few years ago to over US$1.2 BILLION for the trailing twelve months. Reviewing its results and its future growth prospects, it will be clear that this firm is undervalued.

Flexing the barbell strategy to balance Safe Havens with more cyclical exposures. In our view, industrials investors should be positioning their portfolio with a barbell strategy, with half of the exposure in Safe Havens like General Electric, Xylem (XYL), Danaher, Honeywell International, Roper Technologies (ROP), and AMETEK (AME), and the other half selectively in the cyclical names that are better positioned today, such as Pentair, HD Supply Holdings (HDS),Actuant (ATU), Atkore International Group (ATKR), Ingersoll-Rand, and Eaton (ETN). We still believe risk-reward is mostly balanced and that the macro will remain choppy into 2017, supporting a positioning in the defensive names. But if investor sentiment improves on not-worse news and earnings results, the more cyclical names could fare better.

Top 5 Heal Care Stocks For 2018

Honing in on dividend is the best practice during market turbulence. These cash payouts are major sources of consistent income for investors when returns from the equity market are at risk.

Dividend paying stocks are primarily mature companies, which are less susceptible to large swings in the market. Their market leading position, large customer base, sustainable business model, long track of profitability and strong liquidity allow them to offer outsized payouts or sizable yields on a regular basis irrespective of the market direction.

As a result, these stocks provide greater stability and more scope for capital appreciation as opposed to those that pay high yields.

Further, a history of strong dividend growth indicates that a future hike is likely. This makes the portfolio healthy and safe.

Though these stocks have a long history of outperformance compared with the broad stock market or any other dividend paying stocks, it does not necessarily mean that they have the highest yields.

Top 5 Heal Care Stocks For 2018: Finisar Corporation(FNSR)

Its revenue rose 23% annually to $380.6 million, but that missed expectations by $9 million. Earnings rose136% to $0.59 per share, but that also missed estimates by three cents. Finisar’s top and bottom line guidance for the fourth quarter (16% sales growth and 83% earnings growth at the midpoints) also came in below Wall Street estimates.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Friday was a good day on Wall Street, as the stock market responded favorably to encouraging news on the employment front. The U.S. unemployment rate dropped on fairly strong job creation during the month of February, and that helped push the Dow, S&P 500, and Nasdaq Composite to modest gains of roughly between a quarter percent and a half percent. Yet even with a positive mood among market participants, some stocks weren’t able to participate in the end-of-week rally. Finisar (NASDAQ:FNSR), Zumiez (NASDAQ:ZUMZ), and Winnebago Industries (NYSE:WGO) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

Some of the stocks that may grab investor focus today are:

Top 5 Heal Care Stocks For 2018: Nustar Energy L.P.(NS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

One technology player that insiders are active in here is Jive Software (NS), which provides a social business software platform to businesses, government agencies, and other enterprises. Insiders are buying this stock into massive weakness, since shares are down sharply by 43% so far in 2014.

Jive Software has a market cap of $446 million and an enterprise value of $365 million. This stock trades at a fair valuation, with a price-to-sales of 2.68 and a price-to-book of 5.67. Its estimated growth rate for this year is 45.5%, and for next year it’s pegged at 30%. This is a cash-rich company, since the total cash position on its balance sheet is $98.18 million and its total debt is $6.60 million.

A director just bought 260,819 shares, or about $1.71 million worth of stock, at $6.53 to $6.60 per share.

From a technical perspective, JIVE is currently trending just above its 50-day moving average and below its 200-day moving average, which is neutral trendwise. This stock recently pulled back off its short-term high of $7.14 a share with heavy downside volume flows. That drop has now pushed the stock to right above its 50-day moving average at $6.10 a share.

If you’re bullish on JIVE, then I would look for long-biased trades as long as this stock is trending above its 50-day at $6.10 a share and then once it breaks out above some key near-term overhead resistance levels at $7.14 a share to its 200-day moving average of $7.43 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 557,678 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then JIVE will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels $8.50 to $9 a share, or even $9.50 to $10 a share.

Top 5 Low Price Stocks To Invest In 2018

Dollar General (DG) marked its 27th consecutive year of same-store sales growth in fiscal 2016. It followed this milestone up with a beat on both the top and bottom lines during its first quarter of 2017, with comps once again growing – but by only about 0.7%. As I was sifting through the retail carnage, Dollar General was one of the companies that stood out as above average, so I decided to take a closer look with this article.

The business

The company’s primary niche seems to come from its low cost operating structure. The majority of its stores are rural, with roughly 70% of them located in towns of 20,000 people or less. It constantly seeks ways to reduce (or at least control) costs that won’t affect the shopping experience for its customers, many of whom are primarily in a lower income bracket. This is exhibited by its low prices, where 80% of its stock-keeping units are set at $5 or less.
