Top 10 Casino Stocks To Own Right Now: Infinera Corporation(INFN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Billy Duberstein]

What a year 2016 was for Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN) shareholders. The stock plunged over 50% last year, as its multiyear run of accelerating 20%-30% growth rates ground to a halt. The story changed from that of a high-growth technology company riding the secular trend of exploding data and bandwidth needs to one of stagnating revenues, profits turning to losses, increased competition, and end customers pausing investments in optical networks.

Top 10 Bank Stocks To Invest In 2018

I opened my individual retirement account — better known as an IRA — at the tender age of 18. There are a lot of things I wish that I’d known, things the banker probably should have told me when she was helping me open the account.

Even after I opened my account, it was difficult to find resources in plain language to help me understand how retirement saving worked. Ten years and many, many hours of reading later, I’m writing the article that I wish had existed when I first started.

First things first

What’s an IRA, anyway? IRAs are special retirement savings accounts that you can use to invest and that have special tax advantages over regular bank accounts.

The best thing about an IRA is that the money or investments in the plan can grow tax-free. The account can rack up dividends, capital gains, and interest without the government taking a cut of them.

Top 10 Bank Stocks To Invest In 2018: 8point3 Energy Partners LP(CAFD)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Shanthi Rexaline]

If the Suniva noise is removed, the firm believes First Solar stock becomes a fundamental story of execution and long-term share gains. The firm also noted that the company has found success selling off projects to third parties, as intended, with the management seeing more value in selling to third-parties rather than to 8Point3 Energy Partners LP (NASDAQ: CAFD).

  • [By Travis Hoium]

Don’t look now, but the demise of the solar yieldco industry may have been overstated. In the past six months, NextEra Energy Partners (NYSE:NEP), NRG Yield (NYSE:NYLD), and Pattern Energy Group (NASDAQ:PEGI) have all outperformed the market, and even the maligned 8point3 Energy Partners (NASDAQ:CAFD) has come close.

  • [By Travis Hoium]

8point3 Energy Partners LP (NASDAQ:CAFD) and TerraForm Global Inc (NASDAQ:GLBL) were supposed to be two of the renewable energy industry’s leading yieldcos. 8point3 Energy Partners was supposed to be a way for First Solar and SunPower to fund solar projects in the U.S. and TerraForm Global was central to SunEdison’s growth plans abroad.

  • [By Travis Hoium]

Leading the charge are two yieldcos — NextEra Energy Partners (NYSE:NEP) and 8point3 Energy Partners (NASDAQ:CAFD) — and utility company AES Corporation (NYSE:AES). Here’s a look at why they’re good dividend stocks to own today.

  • [By J.B. Maverick]

Recently added in January 2016 to the "strong buy" list at Zacks Investment Research, 8point3 Energy Partners LP (NASDAQ: CAFD) is a subsidiary firm with the support of major solar power companies SunPower and First Solar, and plenty of cash to fund 2016 growth projects. It should be well positioned to move forward in its business of acquiring and operating solar energy generation projects. In late January 2016, the stock is trading at $16.45, in the middle of its 52-week range of $10.26 to $21.15. The stock offers a dividend yield of 2.39%. It has been in a general uptrend since October 2015. Year to date in 2016, the stock is down 2.97%, which means it is weathering the market storm better than many other firms. With the backing of First Solar and SunPower, and a partnership agreement with Wells Fargo, 8point3 is in a stronger industry position than the majority of alternative energy companies.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

We highlight CAFD as our top income oriented pick, a relatively safer, more conservatively-run company within our YieldCo coverage. The stock is yielding 7.5% on a FY16E DPS basis, and provides predictable income over the next several years, regardless of new projects beyond the initial portfolio. With two of the strongest companies in the solar industry serving as sponsors, enough liquidity on the balance sheet to fund growth-projects through mid-2016, and additional levers to pull in order to grow DPS if needed (e.g. payout ratio), we believe CAFD is undervalued.

As a result, we rate CTAS Sector Perform and await a better entry point.

Snap’s CEO didn’t exactly make investor concerns disappear during his big Wall Street debut.

Evan Spiegel, the secretive 26-year-old CEO of Snapchat’s parent company, participated Wednesday in his first earnings call since Snap’s blockbuster IPO in March. The long-awaited moment came just as the building was lit on fire.

Snap’s (SNAP) stock plunged as much as 25% in after hours trading Wednesday as the company reported steep losses, light user growth and lower sales than expected. That drop shaved off nearly all Snap’s gains since going public.

Spiegel mostly avoided those issues in his opening remarks on the call and sounded a positive note. “Overall, I feel we have executed well on our priorities for this quarter: performance, quality and automation,” he said.

The stock price barely budged from its lows as the call went on. It recovered slightly Thursday, but was still down nearly 20% by midday.

“He was polished in delivery, but the color commentary was more limited than what we were looking for,” says James Cakmak, an analyst who covers Snap for Monness, Crespi, Hardt & Co.

We rate TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC as a Buy with a ratings score of A+. This is based on the convergence of positive investment measures, which should help this stock outperform the majority of stocks that we rate. The company’s strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, notable return on equity, good cash flow from operations, solid stock price performance and expanding profit margins. Although the company may harbor some minor weaknesses, we feel they are unlikely to have a significant impact on results.

It also extends a financial rescue to the state capital, Hartford, whose mayor has said it could be forced to seek bankruptcy as soon as next month if the state didn’t provide such help. Meanwhile, earnings season continued to play out, and although the technology industry saw some extremely encouraging reports, not all stocks participated in the rally. Athenahealth (NASDAQ:ATHN), Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF), and Time (NYSE:TIME) were among the worst performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so poorly.

  • [By WWW.THESTREET.COM]

Shares of Athena Health (ATHN) are up 37% in just over a month. Is there still more room to run?

Cramer said for years Athena had been a fast-growing stock, but as the company transitioned from growth to profitability, things began to get ugly. The company’s bombastic CEO, and his “colorful” personality began to rub shareholders the wrong way.

  • [By ]

Under a single-payer system, healthcare becomes a regulated utility much like electricity with just a few large, best-in-class players. Athenahealth (Nasdaq: ATHN) could combine with Walgreen Boots Alliance (NYSE: WBA). Maybe each monolith will cover a specific region like Southern Company (NYSE: SO) and Consolidated Edison (NYSE: ED).

Top 5 Bank Stocks To Buy For 2018: Liquidity Services Inc.(LQDT)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jon C. Ogg]

Liquidity Services Inc. (NASDAQ: LQDT) was raised to Buy from Underperform, and the price target was raised up to $45 from $28.50, at Merrill Lynch.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Liquidity Service (LQDT) is an online auction marketplace for surplus and salvage assets. This stock closed up 14.9% at $34.44 in Monday’s trading session.

    Monday’s Volume: 1.60 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 402,622

    Volume % Change: 336%

From a technical perspective, LQDT skyrocketed higher here right off its 50-day moving average of $30.94 with strong upside volume. This move briefly saw shares of LQDT trend back above its 200-day moving average at $34.60, before it closed just below that level at $34.44. Shares of LQDT are now quickly moving within range of triggering a big breakout trade. That trade will hit if LQDT manages to take out Monday’s intraday high of $35.21 and then once it clears some more near-term overhead resistance at $35.71 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in LQDT as long as it’s trending above $32.67 or above $31.60 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 402,622 shares. If we get that breakout soon, then LQDT will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $38 to $40.90.

Top 10 Gold Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Today, we’re bringing investors the three best silver stocks to buy now as both silver prices and silver stocks continue to outgain the broader markets in 2016.

Before we get into the three best silver stocks to buy now, here’s why the price of silver is soaring in 2016…

Silver has been one of 2016’s best performing assets. The white metal is up 34.9% year to date. Before a recent pullback, silver prices had risen as much as 50% at their 2016 peak.

And silver stocks are boasting much bigger gains…

So far in 2016, the Global X Silver Miners ETF (NYSE Arca: SIL), a fund that tracks gold mining stocks, has soared more than 151%. That’s roughly 25 times the return of the Dow Jones Industrial Average during the same time.

Top 10 Gold Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc.(VNDA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another biotechnology player that looks poised to trigger a big breakout trade is Vanda Pharmaceuticals (VNDA), which is focused on the development and commercialization of clinical-stage drug candidates for central nervous system disorders. This stock has been on fire so far in 2013, with shares up a whopping 258%.

If you take a look at the chart for Vanda Pharmaceuticals, you’ll notice that this stock has recently broke out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $12.34 to $12.66 a share with solid upside volume. So far, this breakout has held and now shares of VNDA are quickly moving within range of triggering an even bigger breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in VNDA if it manages to break out above its 52-week high at $13.30 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action 908,467 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then VNDA will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $15 to $17 a share.

Traders can look to buy VNDA off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some near-term support at $12 a share. One could also buy VNDA off strength once it takes out $13.30 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Top 10 Gold Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc.(REGN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Johanna Bennett]

Shares of biotechnology giant Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN) have climbed more than 4% today after Piper Jaffray analyst Ed Tenthoff upgraded the stock from a neutral to an overweight, with a $446 price target.

The upgrade comes just a few days after the drug maker released soft guidance for 2017 and forecasts called for slowing sales of the eye drug Eylea.

But Piper Jaffrays Tenthoff argues that anticipated approvals and deep pipeline should drive long-term value. Of particular importance: the atopic dermatitis drug Dupixent (dupilumab).

We are confident in FDA approval of Dupixent (dupilumab) in moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis by the March 29th PDUFA date and in Europe in late 2017. The Phase III LIBERTY ASTHMA QUEST study has fully enrolled 1,858 persistent asthma patients to 200mg and 300mg subcu Dupixent q2W. We look for data this year to enable an sBLA submission by YE:17. Regeneron is conducting two Phase III trials in nasal polyps and will initiate Phase III pediatric atopic dermatitis and asthma trials. The company will report data from a Phase II eosinophilic esophagitis study in 1H:17 and begin a Phase II food allergy study in 2H:17. The FDA has deemed Sanofi’s Le Trait facility “acceptable”. As a result, we anticipate the partners will refile on Kevzara (sarilumab) and could gain approval in 2Q:17. These two launches should turn Regeneron’s antibody alliance with Sanofi profitable.

Todays news is the latest development in what has been a volatile time the drug maker. The shares have fallen sharply over the during the last three months, the result of a patent suit with Amgen (AMGN) over its anti-cholesterol drug Praluent, which a judge had set it wouldnt be able to sell in the U.S. , But last week, a judge granted a stay that would allow Regeneron to sell Praluent. It also fueled a pop in its shares.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after a judge said the company could be forced to stop selling an anti-cholesterol drug due to violating an Amgen (AMGN) patent.

    Regeneron Pharmaceuticalsdropped 5.8% to $358.68 today, while the S&P 500 rose 0.4% to 2,276.98.

Chardan’sGbola Amusa takes a victory lap:

Yesterday, after markets closed, it was announced that US Federal District Court Judge Sue Robinson ruled to issue a permanent injunction against Praluent, the PCSK9 mAb for hypercholesterolemia from partners Regeneron and Sanofi, due to infringement of patents from Amgen. The court has imposed a 30-day suspension (stay) on the injunction to allow for settlement or appeal of the District Court decision. Sanofi and Regeneron have announced their intent to appeal the ruling to the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC). The injunction decision is consistent with our counter-consensus published views communicated on 25 January 2016 (“Downgrade to Sell on evidence of likely infringement of Amgen’s PCSK9 patents”) and subsequently. Based on consultation with expert legal counsel, we now put >75% probability Amgen will prevail on appeal and/or Praluent is ultimately removed from the US market, and/or Amgen achieves a settlement substantially in its favor. We currently model $3.3 bn in non-risk-adjusted 2022E US revenues for Praluent, while consensus models $1.2 bn in 2022E US revenues. We reiterate our view from 25 January 2016 to preferentially own Amgen, The Medicines Company (MDCO) (Buy), and Alnylam (ALNY) (Buy) over Regeneron for exposure to PCSK9 inhibitor market dynamics as outcomes trials approach.

While the loss is bad news for Regeneron, Barron’s Johanna Bennettargues that it could herald a comeback for Amgen.

Shares of Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ: AMGN) saw a handy gain to close out the week after the company won a Delaware court ruling that blocked Sanofi (NYSE: SNY) and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. Essentially the court found that the drug Praluent actually infringed upon Amgens patents for its rival treatment Repatha.

It hasn’t been an easy time for investors inRegeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN) recently…and today’s price action is likely to reinforce the sense of whiplash they must be feeling.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

What do I mean? Regeneron’s dropped 14% during the last three months, the result of a patent suit with Amgen(AMGN) over its anti-cholesterol drug Praluent, which a judge had set it wouldn’t be able to sell in the U.S.Then last night, there was finally good news: Ajudge ordered a stay, which would allow Regeneron to sell Praluent, and resulted in a 2% pop in its shares last night after the market close. But then Regeneron reported earnings, and while profits of $3.04 cents a share metthe Street consensus, Regeneron missed on sales and offered disappointing guidance. That caused Regeneron shares to sink 2.1% in pre-open trading.

Fast forward to this afternoon, and and now they’re up nearly 3%. Credit Suisse analyst Alethia Young and team explain why the injunction outweighs the earnings:

Company issued Eylea guidance for 2017- they guided single digit
percentage growth over 2016. Consensus had been for 12% growth and we
    had modeled 11% growth.

EPS for 4Q came in at $3.04 in line with $3.04 consensus. Since the company has already provided OpEx guidance for 2017 and the Eylea 4Q estimate ahead of today we think earnings are less of a focus.

We are curious where in the single digit percentage growth for Eylea the company means- 9% YoY growth wouldnt be too far from consensus vs. 3%
    growth…

As we wrote last night, we would expect shares to trade up due to the injunction stay. We would expect shares to be up 2-4% from the injunction stay, but the effect might be muted somewhat by the Eylea guide. We would guess shares might be up 1 to 3% today.

Shares ofRegeneron Pharmaceuticals have gained 2.8% to $363.04 at 1:57 p.m. today, while the iS

Top 10 Gold Stocks To Invest In Right Now: PACCAR Inc.(PCAR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jim Cramer]

The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Machinery industry. The net income increased by 16.1% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, going from $371.40 million to $431.20 million.

  • [By Jim Cramer]

PACCAR INC has improved earnings per share by 16.3% in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. The company has demonstrated a pattern of positive earnings per share growth over the past two years. We feel that this trend should continue. During the past fiscal year, PACCAR INC increased its bottom line by earning $3.82 versus $3.30 in the prior year. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($4.58 versus $3.82).

  • [By Jim Cramer]

The return on equity has improved slightly when compared to the same quarter one year prior. This can be construed as a modest strength in the organization. Compared to other companies in the Machinery industry and the overall market, PACCAR INC’s return on equity exceeds that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

We rate PACCAR INC as a Buy with a ratings score of B-. This is driven by some important positives, which we believe should have a greater impact than any weaknesses, and should give investors a better performance opportunity than most stocks we cover. The company’s strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its impressive record of earnings per share growth, compelling growth in net income, notable return on equity, attractive valuation levels and largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures. We feel its strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had lackluster performance in the stock itself.

  • [By Jim Cramer]

Despite the weak revenue results, PCAR has outperformed against the industry average of 21.6%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly dropped by 1.6%. The declining revenue has not hurt the company’s bottom line, with increasing earnings per share.

NVIDIA has also recently announced several partnerships lately, like the one with Microsoft, dubbed Olympus, aimed at maximizing GPU performance for data centers. Then there are also other partnerships in the self-driving cars space, like the one with Bosch, and another one with PACCAR (NASDAQ:PCAR), to develop autonomous trucks. Of course, most of these partnerships will most likely take a while before they can translate to any monetary benefits for NVIDIA. What these deals do, though, is reinforce NVIDIA’s grip over this market, which even pushed Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)to acquire Mobileye (NYSE:MBLY), to build a presence in this space. Mobileye is the company that lost business from Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)to NVIDIA last year. Putting that aside, more importantly, the price that Intel is paying to acquire Mobileye has indirectly pointed to the fact that NVIDIA may be significantly undervalued.

Federal Reserve officials saw a strengthening case to raise interest rates as the labor market tightened, with some saying a hike should happen in December, according to minutes of their November gathering released Wednesday in Washington.

“Some participants noted that recent committee communications were consistent with an increase in the target range for the federal funds rate in the near term or argued that to preserve credibility, such an increase should occur at the next meeting,” the record of the Federal Open Market Committee meeting showed. Many officials said a rate rise could be appropriate “relatively soon,” data permitting, it said.

The unemployment rate last month stood at 4.9%, only slightly above Fed officials’ median estimate of full employment. Core inflation measures are just below the Fed’s 2% target. The personal consumption expenditures price index, minus food and energy, rose 1.7% in the 12 months through September.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

While I sold the stock above $5 a short while ago, I didn’t expect the stock to take such a plunge right after the merger was announced. This means that the market is giving another chance to buy the stock at a very deep discount compared to where SoftBank (OTCPK:SFTBY) and OneWeb will be buying.

Interestingly, margins were also approximately 14% in 2012 (the year before Softbank (OTCPK:SFTBY) acquired Sprint) when using the same “traditional EBITDA” methodology. Revenues in 2012, on the other hand, were higher than the annualized results for the first nine months of this current fiscal year. So, on an apples-to-apples basis, neither revenues nor margins appear to have improved much for Sprint since 2012.

Top 10 Safest Stocks To Watch For 2018: Suzuki Motor Corporation (SZKMY)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Elon has plans for a Gigafactory 3 somewhere in the US unlike the Gigafactory in Europe. If Tesla can get just two Gigafactories built, it will have the batteries at least to produce vehicles at about the same scale as Suzuki (OTCPK:SZKMY) (Suzuki made about 3mm autos in 2015). In fact, Tesla hopes to have the Gigafactory running flat out by 2020, supplying 3X the number of batteries it needs unless it can ramp production into 2020 further. These batteries will be used on the Tesla Power Walls and other power containment devices it has in its pipeline, but it sure seems that Tesla can ramp its auto production past the 500k units per year in 2019 and 2020. At the very least, it will likely have the batteries to do so.

If you’re not comfortable with a single stock, I understand. In that case, consider a regional banking ETF like iShares U.S. Regional Banks ETF (NYSEArca:IAT), which holds positions in 54 regional banks around the country. You won’t get quite the pop of an individual acquisition but, chances are, you won’t lose out either.

stock tips: Macy's Inc(M)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Paul Ausick]

Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M) dropped about 1.4% Monday to post a new 52-week low of $23.27 after closing at $23.61 on Friday. The stock’s 52-week high is $45.41. Volume of more than 12 million was about 60% higher than the daily average of around 7 million shares traded. The department store company reported weak quarterly results last week and investors are increasingly wary of retail stocks.

  • [By Jeremy Bowman]

It was a rough 2016 holiday season for brick-and-mortar retailers. Department store shares got thumped last week after Macy’s (NYSE:M) and Kohl’s (NYSE:KSS) both lowered their full-year earnings guidance and said their comparable-stores sales dropped. Those two stocks fell by double digits.

The Macy’s (NYSE: M) Thanksgiving Day Parade dates back to 1924. It is a major PR event for the troubled department store and companies that have balloons showcasing their products. Not only do these parade past tens of thousands of people onNew York City’s West Side, the event is televised nationally by NBC. Most of the largest and most visible balloons are already well-known, and have been for decades.

Across the U.S., department stores have been downsizing because of plummeting mall traffic and the steady shift of consumer dollars toward e-commerce. Earlier this month, Macy’s (NYSE:M) identified 63 stores that it will close in the next few months.

Macy’s (NYSE:M) shareholders need some good news, and they didn’t get it in late February when the company reported fourth-quarter and full-year results. That was expected, but it was still enough to send the struggling retail chain’s stock steadily downward.

The Swiss bank said it was raising first-quarter estimates on four of the six rails it covers, with updated estimates above consensus on Canadian National Railway (USA) (NYSE: CNI), CSX Corporation (NASDAQ: CSX) and Kansas City Southern (NYSE: KSU), which is seen to show upside against low expectations.

  • [By Craig Jones]

The stock traded around 15 percent higher since the Presidential election and options traders are betting that it is going to jump additional 8 percent. Traders were buying the February 38 calls on Wednesday for approximately $0.80. Najarian decided to follow the trade and he bought a call spread in CSX. He's going to be in the position for a month or two.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

A strange turn of events has sent shares of CSX (CSX)–and other railroads, including Union Pacific (UNP) and Canadian Pacific Railway (CP)–soaring today. It all started when Hunter Harrison announced that he would leave Canadian Pacific ahead of schedule to team up with activist investor for the turnaround of another railway company. That company is thought to be CSX.

    Getty Images

That activist interest, more than anything CSX revealed in its earnings report on Tuesday, was enough to get Morgan Stanley’sRavi Shanker and team to upgrade its share to Equal Weight from Underweight. They explain:

The blue-sky potential is likely to continue with the news today that Mr. E. Hunter Harrison will retire from Canadian Pacific and with the WSJ reporting that he is close to teaming up with an activist investor to target CSX…In the near term, given the potential activist interest, the stock is not likely to trade on fundamentals until a resolution, which drives our upgrade from UW to EW. Our PT goes from $24 to $37 or ~18x our FY18e EPS above the peer group but close to the mid-point of the $56 bull scenario and $24 bear scenario amongst the outcomes outlined above.

Shares of CSX have jumped 18% to$43.55 at 11:35 a.m. today, whileCanadian Pacific Railway has climbed 4% to $151.01, and Union Pacific, which released better-than-expected earnings today, has gained 2.4% to $106.21.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The railroad business has been tough lately, and companies like CSX (NASDAQ:CSX) have had to deal with the ups and downs of the industrial economy and its impact on shipping volume. Coming into Wednesday’s first-quarter financial report, however, CSX investors were excited about the prospects for a resurgence in the railroad’s growth prospects.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

CSX (CSX) soared to the top of the S&P 500 today after railroad operator was upgraded by BMO Capital Markets following its big activist-inspired move last week.

    Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

    CSXgained 3.7% to $45.99 today, while the S&P 500 declined 0.3% to 2,265.20.

BMO’sFadiChamoun andTarunJoshi explain why they upgraded CSX to Outperform from Market Perform:

We are upgrading CSX shares to Outperform from Market Perform and raising our target price to $55 from $38. We see upside to around $80 over the medium term. Our constructive thesis is predicated on Mantle Ridge LP being successful in its effort to install Hunter Harrison as CEO of CSX. We believe that the probability of this occurring is fairly high without going down the road of a bruising proxy battle.

CSX’s market capitalization rose to $43.1 billion today from $41.4 billion yesterday. It reported net income of $2 billion on sales of $11.1 billion in 2016.

best shares to invest in today: Lowe’s Companies Inc.(LOW)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Teresa Rivas]

Lowes(LOW) soared on Wednesday after reporting fourth-quarter earnings, making it the best performer in the S&P 500.

    Getty Images

Today the shares are lower, but RBC Capital Markets’Scot Ciccarelli writes that the quarter’s strength supports more gains ahead.

Ciccarelli and his team reiterated an Outperform rating on the stock and raised their price target $7, to $90, writing that the sales trends are positive and the macro backdrop, including a robust housing and construction sector, remains supportive for Lowe’s. They still preferHome Depot(HD), saying it provides more consistent execution, but are upbeat about Lowe’s ability to keep climbing.

Details from their note about Lowe’s upbeat same-store sales:

Lowes monthly comps were very healthy, up 4.7%, 6.3% and 4.2% (Nov-Jan), compared to Home Depots 6.0%, 8.0%, 5.1%. Both comp ticket (+4%) and transaction growth (+1.1%) contributed to the comp after stalling in recent quarters (2Q and 3Q traffic growth were sub-1%). Further, 2-year transaction comps (which we view as the run-rate) improved to ~4.7% in 4Q from 3Qs 3.0% and 2Qs 1.3%. Comps in all regions and nearly all product categories were positive, and the Pro continued to comp above company average. Big-ticket was also strong (+9%), driven by categories such as Appliances, Kitchen and Lawn & Garden.

Lowe’s is down down 0.9% to $80.70 in recent trading, although it’s up 13.5% since the start of the year.

CFRA’sEfraim Levy maintains his Buy rating on Lowe’s:

We increase our 12-month target by $8 to $91, based on 19.6X our FY 18 (Jan.) EPS estimate of $4.65 (up $0.03), near its 3-year average forward P/E and reflecting peer P/E analysis. We set FY 18′s estimate at $5.12. We see greater housing activity and higher values supporting remodeling and construction in FY 18, helping same-store sales to rise 3.5% (after a 4.2% increase in FY 17). LOW posts Jan-Q adjusted EPS of $0.86 vs. $0.59, above the $0.78 Capital IQ consensus estimate. Same-store sales growth of 5.1% in Q4 was more than double the consensus estimate.

Lowe’s market capitalization rose to $70.9 billion today from $64.7 billion yesterday.

    Monday’s Volume: 1.60 million
