Top 10 Value Stocks To Invest In 2018

DryShips (DRYS) finally filed a 6-K after the close on July 25th that provided an update on its equity issuance for the period July 17th to July 25th. This was a break from prior disclosure patterns of providing updates on Fridays after the close or Mondays before the open as discussed in my article titled “Changing Its Disclosure Patterns?” The update on DRYS’ equity issuance was disappointing since the shares issued and the equity raised fell short of my expectations and, judging by the 20% losses in the stock into the late afternoon on July 26th, the market’s also. The following table summarizes the issuance for the period ending July 25th.

DryShips Equity Issuance Analysis Shares O/S July 7th (millions) 5.10 Funding Gap July 14th (millions) $5.56 Dates of Issuance July 17th – July 25th Shares Issued (millions) 14.08 Avg Issuance Price $1.88 July 25th Close $0.96 Shares O/S July 25th (millions) 19.18 Est of Value of Equity Issued $26.49

A close read of the 6-K reveals that most of the 14 million share issuance occurred July 21st through July 25th due to the pendency of the 1 for 7 reverse stock split announced on July 18th with an Effective Date of July 21st. The stock issued during this three day trading period equaled a bit more than 15% of the more than 91 million shares traded. Although this falls within the range of prior issuance percentages, it was a bit surprising that DRYS did not take advantage of the heavy trading volumes and price spikes and drive issuance closer to 20% of the shares traded. This resulted in lower equity proceeds than anticipated.

What do I mean? Regeneron’s dropped 14% during the last three months, the result of a patent suit with Amgen(AMGN) over its anti-cholesterol drug Praluent, which a judge had set it wouldn’t be able to sell in the U.S.Then last night, there was finally good news: Ajudge ordered a stay, which would allow Regeneron to sell Praluent, and resulted in a 2% pop in its shares last night after the market close. But then Regeneron reported earnings, and while profits of $3.04 cents a share metthe Street consensus, Regeneron missed on sales and offered disappointing guidance. That caused Regeneron shares to sink 2.1% in pre-open trading.

Top 5 Clean Energy Stocks To Invest In 2018

Sprints (NYSE:S) exclusive talks with Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA) and Charter (NASDAQ:CHTR) have again brought a lot of speculation to the industry. The merger with T-Mobile (NASDAQ:TMUS) was a good combination but it has been put on hold until Sprint concludes its negotiations with the two cable companies. It is unclear why Sprint has decided to take this path. I understand the appeal for the cable companies and probably for Sprint as well. I highlighted this in my previous article about the merger between Sprint and T-Mobile. In fact, T-Mobiles CFO talked about a combination of Sprint, T-Mobile and one of the cable companies. However, here we see that Sprint is going solo with two of the largest cable companies in the country.

Cable companies are facing a declining subscriber base due to the changes in TV viewing trends. Viewers are increasingly preferring mobile and wireless options for TV. Both these companies have realized this and want to save their market shares by offering wireless/bundle offers to their customers. Comcast and Charter are so determined to use wireless that Comcast bought $1.7 billion worth of wireless spectrum in the April FCC auction. However, that is not going to cut it for the company if they want a nationwide service. Both of these companies have mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreements with Verizon (NYSE:VZ) to distribute their content on the existing wireless infrastructure. However, this limits them to certain regions and they cannot have nationwide access.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Income investors appreciate stocks that pay lucrative dividends, and recently, many companies have seen the value in treating shareholders well by boosting their regular payouts. Yet a few holdouts simply don’t show their appreciation for their investors through dividends. For whatever reason, rather than having no dividend at all, Joy Global (NYSE:JOY), Textron (NYSE:TXT), and Global Payments (NYSE:GPN) maintain the tiniest of quarterly payments. Let’s look more closely at these stocks to see why they do what they do with their dividends.

We are optimistic on Tiffany’s near- and long-term prospects. In the near-term, we have conviction on achievability of FY16 guidance and return to growth in 2017. Our view is that fundamentals will drive EPS upside–specifically, improved momentum in comp store sales through a combination of traffic and unit improvements. As we look to the longer term, our positive view is driven by: (1) modernization of product portfolio towards self-purchase in addition to Tiffany as a gifting destination; (2) category strength in areas such as bridal & engagement jewelry (29% of total revenue mix); (3) Tiffany’s opportunities to leverage its iconic long-term brand equity; (4) substantial barriers to entry with a highly evolved global supply chain, including in-house diamond operations and mining/manufacturing in Botswana; (5) management’s focus on vertical integration through systems/capital investments to advance global procurement, which is expected to generate longer-term cost savings; and (6) ample runway to grow e-commerce (online sales currently an est. ~6% of total revenue mix). Factors under Tiffanys control such as better inventory management and an omni-channel program and strategy are also strong positives.

Oil prices haven’t gotten off to the fast start many expected, falling around 6% on average during the first quarter of the year. One secretive virtual reality (VR) company will soon revolutionize how marijuana dispensaries operate.

The startup is currently developing an augmented reality (AR) headset that would allow medical marijuana patients to “touch” a marijuana bud without ever having to leave their couch.

Already, cannabis sales in North America are expected to increase 198%, from $6.7 billion in 2016, to over $20 billion by 2020.

And if these headsets make ordering marijuana easier, which would in turn increase sales, this technology will be another boon for marijuana dispensary stocks.

Top 10 Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now: Amgen Inc.(AMGN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Three biotech stocks–Alexion Pharmaceuticals (ALXN), Amgen (AMGN), and Celgene (CELG)–reported earnings since yesterday’s close. But just one has seen its shares head higher after the announcement.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

After years of rising and falling in tandem, the biotech sector is all about stock picking now. Credit Suisse analyst Alethia Young and team, for instance, upgraded Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN), and added Celgene (CELG) to its Focus List today. But Amgen (AMGN) wasn’t so lucky as Young cut it to Neutral from Outperform. She explains why:

  • [By Stavros Georgiadis]

Gilead Sciences (NSDQ:GILD) has underperformed the market with its stock price down almost 25% compared to a 10.33% gain in Nasdaq Composite (INDX:COMPX) and 14.60% gain of Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDX:INDU). Gilead and Amgen (NSDQ:AMGN)have had a very tough year, so it is interesting to know if now is the time to invest in GILD stock, not from a bottom fishing point of investing, which is often too risky, but on some solid financial and fundamentals arguments.

  • [By Keith Speights]

Investors have turned to the pharmaceutical industry for solid dividend stocks for a long time. However, biotechs typically weren’t high on the list when it came to dividends. Over the past few years, though, Amgen, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) and Gilead Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:GILD) have risen in prominence as attractive alternatives for dividend-seeking investors.

While the drug candidate met its primary endpoint in a more than 4,000-patient phase 3 study, a high rate of serious heart-related side effects were discovered. The drug was previously expected to gain marketing approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in July, but that decision will now be delayed by up to a year or more, if the drug is approved at all.

Top 10 Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now: Corning Incorporated(GLW)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Steve Symington]

Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) will release fourth-quarter 2016 results on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017. With shares up more than 44% over the past year, including a modest 4% climb since last quarter’s solid report in October, you can be sure the market will be listening closely to what the glass technologist says. What should investors watch for this time around?

  • [By Frank DiPietro]

When Corning Inc. (NYSE:GLW) reported earnings in late January, it committed to continue to reward stockholders handsomely. Its stock price has appreciated nicely over the past 12 months (up roughly 50%) and now it has reiterated its plan to buy back its own shares over the next three years and continue to pay its shareholders a growing dividend. Total cost to the company is projected by management to be at least $12.5 billion through 2019, including annual dividend increases projected to be more than 10%.

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

GLW, with its decline in revenue, underperformed when compared the industry average of 1.7%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues fell by 10.6%. Weakness in the company’s revenue seems to have hurt the bottom line, decreasing earnings per share.

  • [By Craig Jones]

Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) also had a high options volume in the first half of the session, said Jon Najarian. Almost 8,000 contracts of the December 32 calls were traded and Najarian jumped in. He's going to hold the position for a week.

Top 10 Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now: LinkedIn Corporation(LNKD)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Alex McGuire]

For example, LinkedIn Corp. (NYSE: LNKD) fell 16.1% to $79.03 from its IPO date on May 19, 2011, to Aug. 19, 2011. But LNKD stock has since recovered 148% to today’s share price of $195.96.

  • [By Benzinga News Desk]

Microsoft has offered concessions to EU antitrust regulators over its $26.2 billion, $196 per share offer for LinkedIn (NYSE: LNKD), according to the European Commission. The EU regulator had expressed concerns to Microsoft executives about the deal, which was announced in June.

  • [By Andres Cardenal]

The most powerful investment ideas are the ones that can be easily explained and understood. LinkedIn(LNKD) is an undisputed market leader in remarkably promising areas such as professional networking and online employment opportunities, and this makes the company a top name to buy in 2016 and hold for years to come.

As of the third quarter of 2015, LinkedIn(LNKD) had 396 million registered members around the world, a big increase of 20% versus the same quarter the previous year, and 39,726 corporate solutions customers on the platform, a year-over-year increase of 31%. Individuals and corporations attract each other to LinkedIn in search of opportunities, and this creates a virtuous cycle driving sustainable growth over the long term.

Management is also translating the company’s massive opportunities into rapid revenue growth. Total sales grew 37% to $780 million last quarter, with the acquisition of online learning platform lynda.com representing $41 million of that. LinkedIn’s three growth engines are firing on all cylinders: Talent solutions for corporations grew 46%, while premium subscription sales increased 21%, and online advertising revenue jumped 28%.

LinkedIn(LNKD) is actively investing for growth, so profit margins are hard to predict in the short term. However, the company should be able to combine solid revenue growth and expanding profit margins in the years ahead.

Top 10 Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now: Mastercard Incorporated(MA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Mitchell Clark]

This is a stock to own for the long term. It has an excellent long-term track record. Management just announced another dividend increase and more share repurchases.

Earnings growth in 2016 is expected to accelerate over the performance in 2015. The big credit card brands are institutional favorites.

MasterCard Incorporated’s (NYSE:MA) sales and earnings growth have been quite consistent over the years.

  • [By Ashley Moore]

But before we get to the stock pick, here’s a list of the 10 top-performing Warren Buffett stocks so far this year…

    Company YTD Gains
    Moody’s Corp. (NYSE: MCO) 34.25%
    Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) 30.24%
    Verisign Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN) 29.88%
Restaurant Brands Inc. (NYSE: QSR) 29.16%
WABCO Holdings Inc. (NYSE: WBC) 28.97%
    Visa Inc. (NYSE: V) 26.20%
Liberty Sirius XM Group Class C (Nasdaq: LSXMK) 24.54%
    MasterCard Inc. (NYSE: MA) 24.35%
Liberty Sirius XM Group Class A (Nasdaq: LSXMA) 22.89%
Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: SIRI) 22.81%

Again, we don’t recommend all of the stocks above for retail investors. After all, Warren Buffett is one of the most wealthy and legendary investors in history. He has a completely different set of goals from us.

  • [By Matthew Cochrane]

Mastercard Inc’s (NYSE:MA) shares are now near all-time highs, as its consistent and steady growth has driven the stock to amazing heights since its IPO a little more than a decade ago. Since going public, Mastercard’s stock price has skyrocketed more than 2,400%! More recent investors have nothing to complain about either as shares have increased nearly 13% year-to-date. Its recent quarter is just another impressive benchmark in its life as a public company.

recommended stocks to buy today: Medivation Inc.(MDVN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Macro considerations have continued to weigh on stocks whenever they’ve shown signs of life and consensus estimates for many of the large cap companies have been declining. With the sector’s underperformance, the delta in the average PEG ratio for biotech growth companies (excluding Medivation (MDVN)) compared to non-biotech growth companies is slightly wider than it’s been for most of the year. As such, we remain constructive on the sector. That said, while valuations are attractive on a relative basis, there remains some uncertainty for the group and we would not be surprised to see the volatility continue…

Last night, Bloomberg reported that Sanofi (SNY) had made a bid for Medivation (MDVN) but had been rebuffed, while noting that other companies–perhaps Gilead Sciences (GILD), Amgen (AMGN) or AstraZeneca (AZN)?–were also on the prowl. Hot Small Cap Stocks To Buy For 2018

On Wednesday, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggested shorting small cap memory chip stock GSI Technology, Inc (NASDAQ: GSIT):

GSI Technology is a two-tiered trade. The first tier, or target, is the $7.00 level where it plateaud in late February/early March. There’s clearly something about that level, so now that a downtrend is decidedly in place we can reasonably assume a pullback to that mark is in the cards. What we’re really aiming for, however, is a move back to the $5.60 area where GSIT flattened in February.

We’ll settle for the first target at $7.00, and would have a nice profit there anyway. But, the big money is down the road. We like this trade because we’ve got a very good chance at reaping a 10% gain early on, and with that profit cushion in place we can be a little more aggressive and wait for a move to the mid-$5’s.
