Top Tech Stocks To Invest In 2018

Authorities arrested the UK security researcher known for stopping the WannaCry ransomware attack in May.

On Wednesday, 22-year-old Marcus Hutchins — who runs a security blog called MalwareTech — was arrested in Las Vegas for “his role in creating and distributing the Kronos banking Trojan,” according to a spokesperson from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The charges relate to alleged conduct occurring between July 2014 and July 2015.

According to an indictment provided to CNN Tech, Hutchins created the malware and shared it online. The Eastern District of Wisconsin returned a six-count indictment against Hutchins on July 12, 2017. It was unsealed at the time of his arrest.

The trojan stole credentials and personal information and put malicious code on victims’ computers.

Earlier this year, Hutchins became an internet hero when he helped stop WannaCry, a cyberattack that targeted over 150 countries.

Top Tech Stocks To Invest In 2018: JinkoSolar Holding Company Limited(JKS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Paul Ausick]

But the real news is the near vertical trajectory in share prices for the two stocks. This could be another manifestation of the markets hunger for some momentum plays, as we noted earlier this morning the bump to share prices for both JinkoSolar Holding Co. Ltd. Top 10 High Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now

2017 was said to be the year of the buyout, and so far, it appears that the M&A prediction is coming true. Last year’s market saw several industries struggling and left some solid companies beaten down. That put them in a vulnerable position as some of their more stable competitors looked for ways to profit from the challenging environment.

Not only have market conditions made buyouts look much more enticing, but the Donald Trump administration’s promises to lower corporate taxes and reduce regulations have also given some companies more incentive to look for takeover targets.

Top 10 High Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now: Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc.(GMCR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

As badly as short sellers want to hate on Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR), betting against the multiyear rally in this $12.7 billion beverage stock has been about as wise as eating from a box with a skull and crossbones on it. And as a bull market continues to lift all ships, Green Mountain’s ship is going to keep floating above the others.

Green Mountain owns Keurig, the brand of beverage brewers that use self-contained K-Cups to make coffee, teas, and other drinks. While Keurig’s “fad” status has certainly helped tip the deck against GMCR, the fact remains that the firm has done most of the hard work in getting Keurig machines accepted by consumers. With brewers essentially ubiquitous at this point, the firm is able to make money on its cash cow: the K-Cups.

Keurig’s individual-serving cups have big margins and a big installed base. With huge convenience and the relatively large sunk cost that consumers have put into their Keurig machines, it’s a sticky business with big switching costs. Consumers who buy a Keurig are much less likely to spend the money on a competing brand of proprietary coffee pods.

I’ve said before that GMCR is far from cheap right now. But its momentum trajectory is showing few signs of fizzling out, especially as direct competitors such as Starbucks (SBUX) continue to sell K-Cups of their own. Don’t bet against GMCR in September – buy this Rocket Stock instead.

  • [By David Sterman]

But for short sellers in Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (Nasdaq: GMCR), there's another outcome: They've been badly burned as shares have surged, but they insist they've been right all along, and it's only a matter of time before the stock crashes and burns.

  • [By Canadian Value]

So Im going to stick my next out and share my views on four battleground stocks that are among my favorite shorts: World Acceptance (WRLD), Green Mountain (GMCR), Herbalife (HLF), and InterOil (IOC). And next week at the Value Investing Congress I will present another short, my largest.

Top 10 High Tech Stocks To Buy Right Now: Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation(COG)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By David Sterman]

Take Cabot Oil & Gas (NYSE: COG(link is external)) as an example. As I noted earlier this month(link is external), Cabot’s current drilling plans are expected to lead to a big spike in output over the next few years. The company’s executives decided to plow ahead with development plans, even as rivals were retrenching. The fact that natural gas prices have risen more than 10% in the past three weeks simply underscores the wisdom of that strategy, and could lead to rising sales and profit estimates.

Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. (NYSE: COG) is rated as a Hold with a new price target of $24. Top 10 Gold Stocks For 2018: Grow Solutions Holdings, Inc. (GRSO)

Advisors’ Opinion:

Grow Solutions Holdings Inc (OTC: GRSO) acquired Keys Organic and Hydroponic Supply.

"What we are starting to see here is aggregation in the highly-fragmented hydroponic and grow supply industry. Most of these stores, including Keys Organic and Hydroponic Supply, are typically local or regional — This results in a very fragmented market."
"We saw this [aggregation] happen with grocery stores, the finance industry, auto dealerships — Bigger names come in. So, instead of Bob's Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) Dealership or Fred'sGeneral Motors Company (NYSE: GM) outlet, you'll get companies likeAutoNation, Inc. (NYSE: AN) come in, put them under a single brand, consolidate HR and other expenses to develop economies of scale and really help additional bottom line."
“Another way to look at it is, there's coffee shops all around the world, but there's also Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ: SBUX), which started locally […] and developed really organically. But, they could just buy the local coffee shop, redesign it to the Starbucks brand, put their name on it… Now they have the distribution network, the backing of Starbucks, Starbucks will take care of their HR, their payroll — It's a more synergistic approach and a really value-add if they can consolidate any level of scale.”
