good stock to invest in now

The Dow dropped 350 points and swung wildly on a report that Michael Flynn is prepared to testify against President Trump.

The sharp slide in the stock market came within minutes of an ABC News report that Flynn is prepared to testify that Trump directed him to make contact with Russians.

CNN has not confirmed the ABC report.

Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, pleaded guilty on Friday to charges he lied to the FBI about conversations with Russia’s ambassador, according to court documents.

The Dow was recently down 135 points, while the S&P 500 fell almost 1%. The Nasdaq was down 1.1%. Gold, which often does well during times of fear, climbed nearly 1%. The VIX, a barometer of market volatility, soared 12% to its highest level since late August.

“This is how a market reacts when there is a large unknown. Everyone wants to know: What’s the next shoe to drop?” said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at Wunderlich Securities.

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jim Robertson]

On Tuesday, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggested going long small cap digital health (mHealth) stock DarioHealth Corp (NASDAQ: DRIO):

The entry here is rooted in the rebound’s “second wind,” which materialized today. You can see the late-Janaury/early-February rally was nice, but went too far, too fast. Sure enough, the profit-takers dug in. There weren’t a ton of profit-takers though – there was just a distinct lack of buyers. The next wave of buyers are diving in today, seeing last week’s support at the 20-day moving average line. We know there are more buyers than sellers here because today’s sizeable gain is unfurling on huge volume.

Investors can add all sorts of investments to an IRA, but many financial advisors will suggest sticking with conservative dividend stocks. The reason is simple — blue chip income generators generally bounce back from big market crashes, and the compounding effect of reinvested dividends can deliver massive returns over several decades.

At first glance, tobacco giant Altria (NYSE:MO) seems like a great stock for an IRA. Its flagship Marlboro brand dominates the U.S. market, it pays a hefty forward dividend yield of 3.4%, and it’s hiked that dividend every year since it spun off itsoverseas business as Philip Morris International (NYSE:PM) in 2008. But if you gaze further into Altria’s future, you’ll realize that it’s not a great long-term pick for your IRA at all.

Why Altria seems like a good IRA stock

Altria shares have rallied 20% over the past 12 months, outperforming Philip Morris’ 15% rally but slightly underperforming the S&P 500’s 25% gain. Much of that growth can be attributed to two factors — a flight to high-yielding dividend stocks in a low interest rate environment and Altria’s purely domestic business insulating it from the currency headwinds which gobbled up Philip Morris’ overseas gains.

Top 5 Performing Stocks To Invest In Right Now: iShares Mortgage Real Estate Capped (REM)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Donald van Deventer]

The latest implied forward rate forecast from Kamakura Corporation shows projected 10-year U.S. Treasury yields differing -0.07% to 0.03% from last week while fixed rate mortgage yields varied by -0.01% to 0.08%. Mortgage yields, determined by the Monday through Wednesday weekly survey of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, lag Treasury movements simply because of the 3-day yield calculation used in the Primary Mortgage Market Survey. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield is projected to rise from 2.92% at Thursday’s close (down 0.06% from last week) to 3.374% (down 0.06% from last week) in one year. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield in ten years is forecast to reach 4.639%, 1 basis point lower than last week. The 15-year fixed rate mortgage rate is forecast to rise from the effective yield of 3.69% on Thursday (down 0.001% from last week) to 4.222% (down 0.006% from last week) in one year and 6.29% in 10 years, up 0.038% from last week. We explain the background for these calculations in the rest of this note, along with some mortgage servicing rights metrics. The forecast allows investors in exchange traded U.S. Treasury funds (TLT) (TBT), total return bond funds (BOND), municipal bonds (NUV) and exchange traded mortgage funds (REM) to assess likely total returns over the next 120 months. Treasury-related exchange traded funds affected by the forward rates include:

In a note published on Nov. 21, Morgan Stanley’sEvan Calio and team named Marathon Oil as one of the four stocks they expected to outperform if OPEC actually delivered a production cut:

Beta Should Lead At The Start of A Rally: Best ideas in the first leg up: Marathon Oil, Devon Energy (DVN), Anadarko Petroleum (APC), and Continental Resources (CLR). If OPEC announces a cut, whether moderate or deep, we expect that in the initial move up, moderate value beta names, like Marathon Oil, Devon Energy, Anadarko Petroleum, andContinental Resources will lead. For a $5 increase in oil prices, we estimate 2017 cash flow per share would increase 12-18% for these stocks vs. the remainder of the group at 12%. Of these four, short interest is modest for all exceptContinental Resources at 25%, among the highest in our universe. Outperformance of these names should be driven by investors adding to long positions, not short covering.

Good call. Not only did Marathon soar, but Devon Energy jumped 15% to $48.33, Anadarko Petroleum climbed 15% to $69.15, and Continental Resources surged 23% to $58.01.
