Best Safest Stocks For 2018: Coach, Inc.(COH)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Kate Spade (KATE) caught a bounce on Wednesday when the Wall Street Journalreported that it was actively seeking a buyer. Since then, we’ve learned that the fashion accessories retailer looks set to auction itself off to the highest bidder, with the process potentially beginning next month, with bidders potentially including Coach (COH) and Michael Kors (KORS). In a note today, SunTrust Robinson Humphrey analystPamela Quintiliano and team contend that Kate Spade could fetch as much as $23 a share:

  • [By Trey Thoelcke]

In its 75th anniversary year, Coach Inc. (NYSE: COH) has just announced the opening of its newest flagship store, Coach House, on Fifth Avenue in New York City, one of the worlds most prestigious shopping districts.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

…formal language on deal prospects articulates process is proceeding in a timely manner with no definitive timetable and no assurance that process will result in a transaction. We still expect a deal to happen, but do lower our probability from 80% to 70% given the likelihood that potential buyer(s) and KATE have not agreed on a clearing price in earlier rounds of negotiation. We believe a bidder such as Coach (COH) does not want to overpay, is disciplined about managing ROIC, and returns and synergies split may be more rational at an offer price in the range of $22-25. We continue to believe KATE has a long global growth runway ahead with opportunities for store growth abroad, further expansion into non-handbag categories, and supply + digital synergy potential…We rate KATE Market Perform and lower our price target to $21 (was $27). Our updated valuation is based on ~10x our FY18E adj. EBITDA or $284mm.

Honorable Mention: Buy-rated Coach Inc (NYSE: COH) with a $49 price target.

Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL) is a top energy pick for four reasons: 1) the company’s significant leverage to the U.S. onshore market, 2) potential for incremental margin growth, 3) expectations for positive earnings revision and 4) strong balance sheet and a “well respected” management team.

This comes at a time when brand houses like VF Corp. (VFC), PVH Corp. Best Safest Stocks For 2018: Paragon Offshore plc (PGNPQ)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

With even brand new rigs struggling to find work, the jig was soon up for owners of old equipment, like Paragon Offshore (OTCPK:PGNPQ), which is currently undergoing its second debt restructuring in less than three years of independent existence. Likewise, drillers with a fondness for aggressive use of debt were soon in trouble, most notably, former high-flier Seadrill (SDRL) and its little brother North Atlantic Drilling (NADL), which will no doubt file for restructuring within months. As a consequence of the crisis, the OSD industry now has a number of participants without a large debt burden, either new entrants like Borr Drilling, or established competitors that have had debt reduced in a restructuring, such as Ocean Rig (ORIG), to be followed within this year by others, almost certainly including each of SDRL, NADL, and Pacific Drilling (PACD).

  • [By SEEKINGALPHA.COM]

Paragon Offshore’s (OTCPK:PGNPQ) former management’s audacious efforts to omit parts of the senior secured lenders by deeming them unimpaired and instead pay out the majority of the company’s cash to junior unsecured bondholders by presenting a set of entirely unrealistic business forecasts to the court. Fortunately, in case of Paragon Offshore, the bankruptcy judge recognized the framing and accordingly denied confirmation of the company’s plan of reorganization, effectively sending Paragon Offshore back to the drawing board. Consequently, management was ousted after the failure. I have covered the Paragon Offshore saga in a series of articles over the past few quarters, so interested investors might want to take a look at this highly fascinating and still evolving case study.

upcoming stocks to invest in

During the bear markets of 2000-2002 and 2007-2009, the S&P 500 Index lost 49.1% and 56.4%, respectively. As a result, it’s estimated that investors lost trillions of dollars during those two downturns.

In many cases, investors suffered larger losses than necessary due to their failure to effectively diversify their investment accounts. Many investors mistakenly believe they have diversified by simply choosing investments from a number of different asset classes. However, diversification involves much more than combining a couple of large-cap, small-cap, growth, value, and international mutual funds.

The goal of diversification is to combine funds that behave differently under similar market conditions, giving you greater downside protection against major financial losses. In order to diversify effectively, investors need to consider the correlation of returns between each investment in their portfolios and the extent to which their performances track each other. The greater the correlation of returns, the less diversification provided by the two investments.

It’s no secret that people with diabetes need monitoring. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, lower limb amputation, kidney failure and cardiovascular disease in almost all high-income countries. Maintaining blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels at normal or near normal levels can help prevent or delay diabetes complications. High glucose levels can also lead to other serious diseases of the heart, eyes, teeth, nerves and kidneys.

Diabetes needs to remain in check for women to avoid complications in pregnancy. Everyone needs to monitor their glucose levels to avoid cardiovascular disease, nerve disease (diabetic neuropathy), eye disease (diabetic retinopathy), and kidney disease (diabetic nephropathy). Largely due to these factors, diabetes health expenditures are expected to a half-trillion dollars globally by the year 2030.

Halliburton Company (NYSE: HAL) is a top energy pick for four reasons: 1) the company’s significant leverage to the U.S. onshore market, 2) potential for incremental margin growth, 3) expectations for positive earnings revision and 4) strong balance sheet and a “well respected” management team.

stock recommendation: Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc.(VNDA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another biotechnology player that looks poised to trigger a big breakout trade is Vanda Pharmaceuticals (VNDA), which is focused on the development and commercialization of clinical-stage drug candidates for central nervous system disorders. This stock has been on fire so far in 2013, with shares up a whopping 258%.

If you take a look at the chart for Vanda Pharmaceuticals, you’ll notice that this stock has recently broke out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $12.34 to $12.66 a share with solid upside volume. So far, this breakout has held and now shares of VNDA are quickly moving within range of triggering an even bigger breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in VNDA if it manages to break out above its 52-week high at $13.30 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action 908,467 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then VNDA will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $15 to $17 a share.

Traders can look to buy VNDA off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some near-term support at $12 a share. One could also buy VNDA off strength once it takes out $13.30 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Top Financial Stocks To Buy For 2018

Editors’ pick: Originally published Nov. 15.

The global financial sector is on fire this fall.

With the black clouds of the U.S. presidential election finally cleared, investors are betting that a Trump presidency will come with the one-two punch of lowered financial regulation and pressure on the Federal Reserve to hike interest rates, two big drivers that could spell bigger profits for financial sector stocks. But you don’t even have to be aware of those catalysts to realize that something big has been going on here: in the four trading sessions since the vote results hit, the Financial Select SPDR ETF (XLF) has rallied 10.7%.

Just to put that in a little perspective, almost 75% of XLF’s price performance in 2016 has come in those last four trading days…

Top Financial Stocks To Buy For 2018: Coach, Inc.(COH)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

When we examined historical transactions in the specialty retail sector, we noticed a wide range of valuations. Select relevant transactions to consider would be ~2x EV/Sales Coach (COH) paid for Stuart Weitzman, Samsonites acquisition of Tumi at 14x EV/EBITDA, 13x EV/EBITDA for Joseph A. Banks by Mens Wearhouse (TLRD) and Kerings acquisition of Volcom for 18x EV/EBITDA. We believe potential valuation could be as high as ~2x EV/ Sales and ~14x EV/EBITDA given Kate Spade’s unique growth profile to expand to ~$4bn in revenue (from $1.4bn in FY16) and improving profitability from 12% EBIT margin TY to at least HTeens-LDD, in our view (Coach is 18.7% and Michael Kors (KORS) is 21.3%). On these two metrics, Kate Spade would be valued at $21-23…

I would like to think of myself as a boating enthusiast. Yet, if it were a crime to be a “boating enthusiast,” the evidence to convict me would be weak and circumstantial at best. Boating enthusiasts are out on their vessels regularly. I, on the other hand, find reasons (read: excuses) to not go out on a particular day. For example, it may be too windy or not windy enough. Or it might rain. Yet, the reality is that most days would be just fine and present a wonderful opportunity to be on the waterand I’d wish I’d have gone out.

So what does this have to do with investing? Some investors find themselves in a similar pattern of behavior when it comes to making investment decisions. The conditions are seldom, if ever, perfect for investing. The stock markets are overvalued, the trend for the stock markets has been negative or too positive, interest rates are too high or too low, the Fed is tightening or is too loose: These are just some of the hurdles that people put in the way of making decisions to invest.

The S&P 500 rose 1.5% this week after advancing 0.2% to 2,351.16 today, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.7% this week after ticking up 4.28 points to 20,624.05. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.8% this week after today.

There were all sorts of reasons for the market to drop this week: Fed chief Janet Yellen was more hawkish than expected when she testified to Congress this week, while President Donald J. Trump was busy defending himself, rather than proposing business friendly legislation.

But the market refused to take a loss for an answer. Today, for instance, the Dow had been down as much as 87.16 points, before rallying back, while the blue chip benchmark rallied back from a 55.03 decline. In fact, that’s been the pattern all year in the S&P 500, explains the folks at Bespoke Investment Group:

Top 5 Blue Chip Stocks For 2018: Orbital ATK, Inc.(OA)

It would have been a whole lot easier to just take a good hard look at SpaceX’s own financial documents, and get the answers straight from the source.

Defense giant Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) confirmed Monday it will buy Orbital ATK Inc (NYSE: OA), the maker of the Pegasus rocket and a vast array of other aerospace and defense systems, in a $9.2 billion deal.

  • [By Rich Smith]

On one particularly big news day, April 28, the DSCA announced that it has notified Congress of no fewer than seven separate pending arms sales that it plans to push through. These deals are aiming to sell:

110 radar-seeking air-to-ground “HARM” missiles to Australia, generating sales of $137.6 million for prime contractors Orbital ATK (NYSE:OA) and Raytheon (NYSE:RTN). Four P-8A Poseidonsubmarine-hunting jet aircraft to New Zealand — a $1.46 billion payday for Boeing (NYSE:BA). 13 76 mm cannonfor installation aboard Israeli Navy SA’AR 4.5 and SA’AR 6 Missile Patrol Boats at a purchase price of $440 million. (Italian firm Leonardo S.p.a.’s DRS North America subsidiary will be the contractor on that one.) Nine Bell 429light utility helicopters to Slovakia, yielding sales of $150 million for Textron (NYSE:TXT). And five CH-47D Chinookhelicopters, sold out of U.S. government surplus to Greece for $80 million.

Also included in the DSCA’s list of pending contracts are two directed toward the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, specifically:

Last Monday, U.S. defense contractor Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) announced it would buy Orbital ATK Inc (NYSE: OA), a direct Aerojet Rocketdyne competitor, for about $7.8 billion (a 22% premium to Orbital’s Friday close) in a deal thatwill give it greater access to lucrative government contracts and expand its arsenal of missile defense systems and space rockets. While Northrop already has a significant presence in payloads, it has not had launcher capability, an area that Orbital brings for both space and missile defense. Orbital also has contracts with NASA and the U.S. Army. The all-cash transaction is the biggest in the defense sector in two years and comes ahead of planned upgrades of U.S. ballistic systems (as the saber rattling by North Korea continues), which are expected to drive demand for missiles.

But what about the middle?

If you're like most investors, you've been led to believe that it's impossible to earn large amounts of investment income without taking big risks.   This idea – which you'll hear from many financial advisors and brokers – is simply wrong.   It is possible to earn double-digit annual yields on your money – safely – by selling options.   So why doesn't everyone use this strategy to earn consistent income streams? Below, you'll find the five common objections I've heard from readers or that I've found on the Internet… and my responses to them.   REASON NO. 1: Option-selling strategies like covered calls are too risky. You'll earn 5% in premiums, but if the stock falls 25%, you're still down big!   This objection is 100% valid. The way most people approach covered calls is risky. (If you're unfamiliar with covered calls, I encourage you to read this essay.) These folks buy risky stocks because risky, volatile stocks typically offer larger cash premiums than safe, stable blue chips. But most people end up losing on risky covered-call positions because their stocks fall in value.

Thanksgiving is almost here but the exit of both Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation (NYSE: PPC) and Smithfield Foods (NYSE: SFD) to focus on their chicken or pork businesses (the latter was also acquired by the Chinese) leaves just two big Thanksgiving turkey stocks, Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL) and Seaboard Corporation (NYSEAMEX: SEB), for investors to consider. According to the American Far Bureau, a 16-pound turkey will (on average) come in at a total of $22.74 this year or roughly $1.42 per pound for a decrease of 2 cents per pound or a total of 30 cents per whole turkey, compared to 2015. The price drop may be a transition back to the norm as the significant bird flu outbreak last year hurt the nations supply of both turkey and eggs.

The next iteration of the iPhone will also be the 10 year anniversary of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL)'s first highly successful iPhone. The iPhone now contributes close to two-thirds of Apple's total revenue. In order to meet investor and consumer anticipation, Apple needs to deliver improved functionalities with the new iPhone 8. And as a result, the company's bill of materials (or BOM) will likely get pushed significantly higher.

This is not entirely surprising in an increasingly competitive market. Even the Samsung S8 recently saw a 16 percent increase in BOM (from $264.16 to $307.50) compared to its S7. Last year, the which was 20% higher than the iPhone 6S' BOM.

However, Apple now has less leverage when trying to pass through its component costs to the end consumer due to a more competitive market – specifically in China. So simply increasing the average selling price (or ASP) may no longer be an option for Apple.

Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE: NVO) dropped about 1.5% on Friday to post a new 52-week low of $32.35 after closing at $32.84 on Thursday. The stock’s 52-week high is $59.00. Volume of about 3.4 million was close to the daily average of around 3.9 million shares. The drug maker had no specific news.

When most investors think of diabetes stocks, names like Novo Nordisk A/S (ADR) (NYSE:NVO) and MannKind Corporation (NASDAQ:MNKD) come to mind. And well they should. Novo Nordisk is the biggest insulin company in the world, and while MannKind is relatively small, it’s a name that turns heads simply because it came up with an inhalable insulin that – after a slow start – is getting a little traction.

In both cases though, the paradigm is the same one that was first used decades ago. That is, if a person isn’t making their own insulin, then it must be introduced externally. What if instead a diabetic’s glucose levels could be controlled by turning on the cells in their body responsible for processing that sugar? That’s the approach Cell MedX Corp (OTCMKTS:CMXC) is taking, using a relatively new but very compelling science.

While chemical-based manufactured pharmaceuticals were largely the core of healthcare for well over the past century, it’s become clear that our bodies – right down to our cells – are also electrical in nature. Not only do they produce it, they need it to function properly. The FDA has even recently approved a therapeutic device that delivers mild electrical currents to and through an individual’s body as a means of treating pain. This “electromedicine” has also shown a certain degree of efficacy as a treatment for several illnesses, including cancer. Specifically, electrical currents have been demonstrated to force pleomorphic cancer microbes into hibernation, essentially making a cancerous cell a normal, healthy cell again. So, using an electrical current as a means of therapy for diabetics isn’t far-fetched at all. Indeed, it’s quite brilliant.

As for how Cell MedX is using the idea, it’s actually quite simple. The device is called an eBalance. At first glance it just looks like another ordinary tablet computer. A closer inspection of the e-Balance device, however, makes it clear that it’s not just another tablet. It’

Fashion is already a tough play on the stock market. Once-popular labels likeMichael Kors(NYSE:KORS) andCoach(NYSE:COH) have tumbled recently as their brands seem to have become diluted in a highly competitive handbag market. The problem with investing in stocks like these is that often what’s in style one year is on the discount rack just a few years later.
