best it stocks to buy: SanDisk Corporation(SNDK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Michael Flannelly]

Early on Friday, analysts at RBC Capital boosted the near-term estimates on SanDisk Corporation (SNDK), a manufacturer of data storage products, because a fire at SK Hynix’s factory should lead to favorable pricing over the next two quarters.

“We see a favorable pricing environment as a result of SK Hynix’s fire, which threatens to curtail NAND output as the company likely re-purposes production back toward DRAM, resulting in lower than expected incremental NAND wafers vs. company’s plan of 170K/WPM,” RBC Capital analyst Freedman said. “Consequently, we see stronger pricing through EoY before SK Hynix ramps NAND toward normalized prod’t levels as DRAM resources are restored/replaced.”

The analysts maintain an “Outperform” rating on SDNK and still see shares reaching $76. This price target suggests a 26% upside to the stock’s Thursday closing price of $60.08. Furthermore, they boosted SanDisk’s 2013 EPS estimates from $4.82 to $4.95.

SanDisk shares were up a fraction during pre-market trading on Friday. The stock is up 38.11% year-to-date.

McDonald’s has been preparing to sell its Big Mac Sauce in grocery stores since last year. In September 2016, the company filed a trademark registration for “Mac Sauce” and in January this year it gave away 10,000 bottles of Big Mac Special Sauce in the U.S. as part of a product promotion. Earlier in 2016, the company released 4,000 bottles of its sauce in Australia as a small retail trial. However, the company now appears to be getting serious about selling its sauces in stores. McDonald’s recently announced that its Big Mac, McChicken, and Filet-O-Fish sauces will be sold in grocery stores across Canada, starting this spring. Several restaurants sell their products in grocery stores, and McDonald’s is joining the club in an attempt to generate an additional source of revenue. The company will be working with Kraftz Heinz to create this product. As the market for condiment sauces continues to grow at a steady rate and demand for McDonald’s products remains high, entering the retail condiment market could generate a fairly substantial revenue stream for the company.

Best Stocks To Watch Right Now: Staples, Inc.(SPLS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Money Morning Staff Reports]

Since 2011, Staples Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) has cut 16% of its full-time U.S. workforce — down to 44,000 from 53,000 employees five years ago.

During that same period, the company’s annual sales declined a whopping 9% — down to $22.5 billion from $24.7 billion.

  • [By Lisa Levin]

Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLS) posted weaker-than-expected earnings for its fourth quarter.

Staples reported Q4 adjusted earnings of $0.25 per share on revenue of $4.56 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings of $0.26 per share on revenue of $5 billion.

Staples (SPLS) soared to the top of the S&P 500 today on reports that the office-supplies retailer was considering selling itself.

Staples gained 9.8% to $9.51 today, while the S&P 500 ticked up 0.1% to 2,360.16.

CFRA’s Efraim Levy doesn’t see a “natural buyer” for Staples but remain Buy rated anyway:

Shares are higher on an unconfirmed WSJ report that SPLS is looking at the possible sale of the company. Our fundamentally valued 12-month target of $11, applies a below historical average P/E of 12.1X our FY 18 EPS estimate, given office industry challenges. Our target has 11% upside, plus a 5.5% yield. We don’t see a natural buyer for a large physical store office supply presence, although an activist/private-equity buyer is a possibility. To make an acquisition worthwhile, a buyer would have to be more aggressive in cost cutting and use of cash flow than SPLS’s existing plan.

Staples’ market capitalization rose to $6.2 billion today from $5.7 billion yesterday. It reported a net loss of $459 million on sales of $18.2 billion in fiscal 2017.

A few years ago, office-supplies retailerStaples(NASDAQ:SPLS)and electronics store RadioShack thought they could benefit from the e-tailer’s sales prowess. Although they were losing sales regularly to Amazon, they thoughtplacing lockersin their stores could also result in the sale of an extra ream of paper or a few capacitors and potentiometers. Instead what they found was customers were simply buying their paper, ink cartridges, and electronic gadgets on Amazon and picking them up in their stores. After just a year, Staples and RadioShack abruptly ended the program.

Since more people are online or using mobile devices, that’s where the money is these days. And that’s where rip-off artists are hanging out as well.

But a surprising number of Millennials are victims of old fashioned scams where thieves use telephone calls to find their victims. A number of these rip-offs involve tax scams used to ensnare older Americans.

According to a survey by First Orion, a phone call/enterprise solutions company, Millennials are increasingly targeted — and scammed — by phone calls that target personal financial information:

“Millennials were much more likely to give away personal information over the phone compared to any other generation,” the survey found. They were “6 times more likely to give away their credit card information (2.4 percent) and almost twice as likely (1.6 percent) to give away their social security number to a scammer over the phone.”

We’re not talking about hacking here. These are traditional scams where a swindler gets information from a phone call.

best investments: Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc.(VNDA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another biotechnology player that looks poised to trigger a big breakout trade is Vanda Pharmaceuticals (VNDA), which is focused on the development and commercialization of clinical-stage drug candidates for central nervous system disorders. This stock has been on fire so far in 2013, with shares up a whopping 258%.

If you take a look at the chart for Vanda Pharmaceuticals, you’ll notice that this stock has recently broke out above some near-term overhead resistance levels at $12.34 to $12.66 a share with solid upside volume. So far, this breakout has held and now shares of VNDA are quickly moving within range of triggering an even bigger breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in VNDA if it manages to break out above its 52-week high at $13.30 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action 908,467 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then VNDA will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $15 to $17 a share.

Traders can look to buy VNDA off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some near-term support at $12 a share. One could also buy VNDA off strength once it takes out $13.30 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

Top Biotech Stocks To Own For 2018

In just 12 months, shares of GW Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:GWPH) have shot up 125%. Over the past five years, the market cap of the cannabinoid-focused biotech has increased by well over 1,100%. Over-hyped?

Some would argue that the prospects for GW Pharmaceuticals are over-hyped. What they really mean is that the prospects for the company’slead cannabinoidcandidate Epidiolex are over-hyped. GW’s fortunes depend on theexperimental drug.

It’s not that many doubt that Epidiolex will win regulatory approval. GW Pharmaceuticals announced results from three different late-stage clinical studies that found Epidiolex helped reduce seizure frequency in patients with Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), both of which are rare forms of epilepsy. While there’s always a possibility that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) could turn down approval of the drug, Epidiolex’s chances appear to be pretty good.

Top 10 Bank Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Wells Fargo is once again in hot water with the government — this time for forcing auto insurance on thousands of borrowers.

A New York regulator subpoenaed two Wells Fargo divisions Tuesday, demanding the big bank turn over loan agreements and other documents related to the auto insurance scandal, a person familiar with the matter told CNNMoney.

Wells Fargo (WFC) has until August 22 to provide the information to the New York Department of Financial Services, the source said. News of the subpoenas was first reported by Reuters.

Separately, Senator Elizabeth Warren and several other Democrats have called for new Wells Fargo hearings. In a letter to Republican Senate Banking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo, the Democrats requested a September hearing with Wells Fargo CEO Tim Sloan and Chairman Stephen Sanger. Crapo’s committee did not respond to a request for comment from CNNMoney.

Senate Democrats also wrote a letter to Wells Fargo demanding the bank answer a series of questions about the new scandal. The lawmakers linked the auto insurance problem to the scandal that rocked Wells Fargo last year over the opening of millions of potentially unauthorized accounts.

Shares of the retail pharmacy giant fell by more than 18% during 2016, according to data fromS&P Global Market Intelligence. That vastly underperformed the company’s biggest rival,Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ:WBA).

  • [By JACK HOUGH]

CVS Health (CVS) is a long-term winner, returning more than 14% a year over the past decade, double the yearly return of the S&P 500. It has sold off from over $110 this past summer to a recent $93, presenting a buying opportunity. The decline stems in part from management last quarter issuing 2016 earnings guidance below Wall Street expectations. Even so, it implies earnings per share growth of 10% to 14% next year. Shares now sell for 16 times projected earnings for the next four quarters, down from close to 20 times earlier this year.

The company remains at the center of trends that could keep earnings growing at a double-digit pace through the end of the decade. Increased medical-plan coverage is driving more prescriptions. So is the aging of the baby boomers. Medical plans are looking to save on drugs, and some are turning over more business to drug-plan managers like CVS’ Caremark. Patients looking for savings, including those who remain uninsured, can take care of basic health-care needs through walk-in clinics, like CVS’ Minute Clinic chain. The stock’s dividend yield is unremarkable at 1.5%, but payments are expected to grow more than 60% cumulatively over the next three years.

Top 10 Bank Stocks To Invest In Right Now: American States Water Company(AWR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Michael Flannelly]

On Tuesday, analysts at Brean Capital upgraded American States Water Co (AWR), as they now believe the shares have reached an attractive entry point.

The analysts upgraded AWR from “Hold” to “Buy” and see shares reaching $28. This price target suggests an 11% upside to the stock’s Monday closing price of $25.22.

Brean Capital analyst Michael Gaugler said, “The shares have fallen to a price level that we now consider attractive, and our sum-of-the-parts valuation indicates fair value is $28 based on our 2014 EPS forecasts. We recommend investors begin accumulating positions under the $25.50 price level to allow sufficient (10%) upside (excluding dividends) to our target price.”

“We acknowledge that the current environment for utility stocks in terms of interest rate impacts is less than ideal. However, we note the shares of AWR (and our other utility coverage names) have traded at higher P/E multiples when the general level of interest rates was much higher. We see the impact of higher rates as short term and negligible, particularly when we look closely at AWR’s ability to continue to raise its dividend payout versus the peer group by using free cash flow from the ASUS business,” Gaugler added.

American States Water shares were up 72 cents, or 2.85%, during early morning trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 8% year-to-date.

Oppenheimer’s Ari Wald compare the current market to 1983, and recommend owning top-performing economically sensitive stocks like 3M (MMM), Microsoft (MSFT), and Honeywell International (HON) before the S&P 500 breaks out:

We see similarities in current market conditions to how the S&P traded in 1983. In 1983, following the initial surge off the low, the S&P consolidated sideways before breaking out to new highs. The important message here is that we recommend owning stocks in anticipation of a breakout to new highs this year…

Last weeks client discussions centered on what to make of the recent strength by low momentum (MO) stocks, and weve found it to be bullish for the S&P because it tends to occur at important inflection points….While buying Low MO can work for a quick trade, our momentum-based discipline indicates that buying cyclicals with High MO is the more attractive bet for the long term…

Top 10 Performing Stocks For 2018: Orbital ATK, Inc.(OA)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Rich Smith]

On one particularly big news day, April 28, the DSCA announced that it has notified Congress of no fewer than seven separate pending arms sales that it plans to push through. These deals are aiming to sell:

110 radar-seeking air-to-ground “HARM” missiles to Australia, generating sales of $137.6 million for prime contractors Orbital ATK (NYSE:OA) and Raytheon (NYSE:RTN). Four P-8A Poseidonsubmarine-hunting jet aircraft to New Zealand — a $1.46 billion payday for Boeing (NYSE:BA). 13 76 mm cannonfor installation aboard Israeli Navy SA’AR 4.5 and SA’AR 6 Missile Patrol Boats at a purchase price of $440 million. (Italian firm Leonardo S.p.a.’s DRS North America subsidiary will be the contractor on that one.) Nine Bell 429light utility helicopters to Slovakia, yielding sales of $150 million for Textron (NYSE:TXT). And five CH-47D Chinookhelicopters, sold out of U.S. government surplus to Greece for $80 million.

Also included in the DSCA’s list of pending contracts are two directed toward the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, specifically:

While Trump’s nuclear tweet appears to have taken some folks off guard, the fact is that the U.S. has been planning a major upgrade and refurbishmentof its nuclear arsenal for quite some time — since at least the early years of the second Obama administration, in fact. As far back as three years ago, we were writing about a U.S. Air Force effort to begin upgrading the nation’s aging fleet of Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles — a contract that Aerojet Rocketdyne (NYSE:AJRD), among others, is counting on to juice its rocket revenues. Rival rocket scientist Orbital ATK (NYSE:OA) is bidding on the same contract, and whether it’s Aerojet or Orbital that eventually ends up winning this piece of the nuclear rearmament project, there should be money aplenty to go around.

Defense giant Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) confirmed Monday it will buy Orbital ATK Inc (NYSE: OA), the maker of the Pegasus rocket and a vast array of other aerospace and defense systems, in a $9.2 billion deal.

Much of this was based on educated guesswork, however, as we extrapolated what we knew about the finances at SpaceX rivalsBoeing(NYSE:BA),Lockheed Martin(NYSE:LMT),Orbital ATK(NYSE:OA), andAirbus(NASDAQOTH:EADSY), and applied it to what wethoughtthat might mean for SpaceX’s own finances. It would have been a whole lot easier to just take a good hard look at SpaceX’s own financial documents, and get the answers straight from the source.
