Our primary purpose is to assist subscribers in growing their capital and income base to generate cash for their current and future needs, explains Kelley Wright, editor of Investment Quality Trends.

To that end we believe that shares of high quality stocks purchased at a historically repetitive area of low-price/high-yield offers the greater potential for downside protection and upside appreciation.

The Timely Ten, therefore, is not just another ‘best of, right now’ list.  Rather, it is our reasoned expectation — based on our methodology and experience — that these ten currently Undervalued stocks offer the greatest real total-return potential over the next five years.

Whether you are building a portfolio from scratch, are partially invested and seeking new positions, or are fully invested and in need of some affirmation and hand holding, The Timely Ten represents our top ten current recommendations.

Looking at recent historical deals, we arrive at a $18-$23 potential deal range. We analyzed transactions that have been announced over the past four years and involved companies catering to a higher income customer. These deals include Southern Tide (acquired by Oxford Industries (OXM)), Joe’s Jeans (acquired by Sequential Brands Group (SQBG)), prAna (acquired by Columbia Sportswear (COLM)), The Jones Group (acquired by Sycamore Partners [private] and Juicy Couture (acquired by Authentic Brands Group [private]). The average EV/EBITDA multiple of these transactions are 12.9x (in line with KATE’s 5-year historical average of 12.1x) and implies a potential deal range of $22-$23. When taking the average of recent (F13-16) deals implies an ~10.5x EV/EBITDA multiple. When applying the ~10.5x multiples to KATE’s trailing EBITDA, we arrive at an $18- $19 potential share price.

The deal still needs approval from regulators, but there are fewer potential objections than the attempted tie-up between Aetna and Humana (NYSE: HUM), two insurers. While CVS does manage some drug-benefits plans for employers and insurers through its PBM, the merger wouldn’t create less competition in one particular segment of the industry like the insurance market.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

The Wall Street Journal reported that government regulators are pushing back against Anthem’s (ANTM) purchase of Cigna (CI). California, however, seems to have few issues with the proposed combination of Aetna (AET) andHumana (HUM). Leerink’s Ana Gupte explains:

Humana (HUM) soared to the top of the S&P 500 today after the Republican Congress put forward a plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

    S. MARTIN/AFP/Getty Images

    Humana gained 2.4% to $217.76 today, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.3% to 2,368.38.

Why was Humana the best performing stock in the S&P 500? Beats the heck out of me, since what a final plan will look like is still up in the air. Strategas Research Partners’ Daniel Clifton and team explain:

Handwringing about what this bill achieves or not is at a fevered pitch this morning. Our guess is that the final legislation will look quite different than the original draft as was the case eight years ago when the Democrats released their ACA draft and spent the next 12 months fighting over the details. There is a wide chasm of views between conservative House Republicans and moderate Republican Senators. Support is going to be needed from each group to win passage. The most logical complaint is that this is one entitlement program being replaced with another. But how ironic would it be if the Tea Party, which came to fruition in response to the ACA, actually becomes the barrier to reforming the law. Supporters of the ACA and investors in healthcare service companies will be focused on the number of covered lives. There is no doubt that a reformed Medicaid system (to get costs down) and less generous tax credits will lead to fewer covered lives. How much of a difference will be open to interpretation as policymakers await the CBO score.

Humana’s market capitalization rose to $32.5 billion today from $31.8 billion yesterday. It reported net income of $614 million on sales of $54.4 billion in 2016.

The coffee trade is setting up for another bounce.   When we pocketed a 30% gain on the iPath Bloomberg Coffee Subindex Total Return Fund (JO) last month, I wrote that we'd look to get back into the position when coffee relieves its overbought position and comes back down toward a support level.   I didn't think it would happen so soon. But here we are…   Let's start with an updated chart of the price of coffee…
Since early November, the price of coffee has fallen from $1.74 per pound to $1.39. That's a 20% drop in one month.

really good stocks to invest in: The Michaels Companies, Inc.(MIK)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Jim Cramer]

The company, on the basis of net income growth from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly outperformed against the S&P 500 and exceeded that of the Specialty Retail industry average. The net income increased by 20.0% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, going from $64.00 million to $76.80 million.

  • [By JPMorgan]

MIK’s results over the past year point to the company’s success in improving merchandising, marketing, and in-store execution plus the benefits of having a functioning e-commerce website. We believe part of the challenge for the bears is both a lack of appreciation for the category as well as missing the historical context of how leadership has evolved. Indeed, the difference in focus on "the front end" under CEO Chuck Rubin (who arrived in 2013) vs. a more process-oriented and margin-focused CEO prior to his arrival left a lot of impactful, low hanging fruit opportunities. Finally, while we acknowledge that longer term the sustainable comp is lower than the recent ~4% underlying trend, we point to the low volatility of sales, high cash generative nature of the business, barriers to entry (e.g., high SKU density, low inventory turns, lack of brands), and MIK’s market leadership as reasons why the multiple has the potential to expand over time (a la AZO). Balance sheet de-levering should also make the PE look increasingly cheap over time and transfer cash/value to equity holders.

We rate MICHAELS COS INC as a Sell with a ratings score of D+. This is driven by some concerns, which we believe should have a greater impact than any strengths, and could make it more difficult for investors to achieve positive results compared to most of the stocks we cover. Among the areas we feel are negative, one of the most important has been weak operating cash flow.

  • [By Jim Cramer]

42.37% is the gross profit margin for MICHAELS COS INC which we consider to be strong. Regardless of MIK’s high profit margin, it has managed to decrease from the same period last year. Despite the mixed results of the gross profit margin, the net profit margin of 6.57% trails the industry average.

MICHAELS COS INC has improved earnings per share by 19.4% in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($1.70 versus $1.04).

Megyn Kelly was arguably the highest-profile media figure of the 2016 campaign, thanks to her exchanges with Donald Trump. Yet as Trump was sworn in as president, the former Fox News anchor stayed sidelined, waiting to start her new assignment at NBC News.

Set up to host two different shows — including an hour of “Today” come fall — “Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly” marked her official NBC debut, armed with a high-profile “get” interview with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

In a CNN interview, Kelly maintained “Sunday Night” would distinguish itself by being “cutting edge” and “a little irreverent.” Those attributes, however, weren’t particularly evident in a premiere that looked like pretty much any conventional newsmagazine, including separate pieces from Cynthia McFadden and Harry Smith.

Kelly’s centerpiece interview displayed some of the toughness that defined her at Fox, expressing disbelief when the Russian president claimed he hadn’t spoken with his ambassador about meetings with Trump’s inner circle. “Never?” she asked, with an arched eyebrow.

Sohu.com Inc (NASDAQ: SOHU) is projected to report a quarterly loss at $0.57 per share on revenue of $406.50 million.

Bank of Hawaii Corporation (NYSE: BOH) is expected to report its quarterly earnings at $0.99 per share on revenue of $149.88 million.

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Sohu.com (SOHU) is a Chinese online media, search, gaming, community and mobile service group. This stock closed up 7.5% to $69.61 in Monday’s trading session.

    Monday’s Volume: 4.90 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 1.01 million

    Volume % Change: 351%

From a technical perspective, SOHU ripped sharply higher here with heavy upside volume. This move pushed shares of SOHU into breakout territory, since the stock took out some near-term overhead resistance at $67.80. Shares of SOHU are now quickly moving within range of triggering another breakout trade. That trade will hit if SOHU manages to take out Monday’s high of $69.71 to its 52-week high at $70.63 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in SOHU as long as it’s trending above Monday’s low of $66.95 or above that first breakout level of $67.80 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 1.01 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then SOHU will set up to enter new 52-week-high territory, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $75 to $80.

Sohu.com (NASDAQ: SOHU) shares rose 2.77% to touch a new 52-week high of $71.54. Analysts at Goldman Sachs upgraded the stock from neutral to conviction buy.

Shares in Sohu.com (SOHU) continued their rapid rise, hitting yet another fresh 52-week high during the session, as the company announced the special dividend from Sohou yesterday (press release located here). Sohu.com will receive nearly $161.2 million in the transaction which is part of the overall $400 million deal with Tencent (TCEHY.PK) which was announced not too long ago. These are exciting times in the internet space as we move from computers to mobile devices, but China’s internet landscape looks like the ‘Wild West’ right now and we expect to see further deals as companies jockey for position in their respective niches and consolidation begins as the larger players look to step up growth and gain exposure to new business segments.

Chinese Internet companies [e.g. Alibaba (NYSE:BABA), Tencent (OTCPK:TCEHY) (OTCPK:TCTZD), Sina (NASDAQ:SINA)] saw tremendous growth in recent years thanks to the growing penetration of Internet and the high population concentration in the country. The new wave of growth for these companies lies in the 3G/4G coverage improvement, resulting in renewed growth in the Chinese technology sector. Live broadcasting is no exception. Per MIIT and Credit Suisse estimates, total 3G/4G subscriber grew at 64% CAGR between 2011 and 2016 and it is expected to reach 1.2 bn in 2018 with a 90% penetration rate.

Top 10 Clean Energy Stocks To Invest In 2018: Viva Entertainment Group (OTTV)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Matthew Briar]

Most consumers broadly, vaguely know that so-called over-the-top television services like Hulu and Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) are slowly chipping away at traditional cable television service providers. But, the full extent of this paradigm shift may not have been fully appreciated until Paywizard published some jaw-dropping statistics about just how fast the OTT sliver of the television market was growing. Perhaps even more compelling to current and would-be owners of Viva Entertainment Group Inc (OTCMKTS:OTTV) is how possible it was for an unestablished name to break into the over-the-top television market and steal business before Netflix and Hulu even get a chance to win it.

As suggested, Viva Entertainment Group is an OTT play, but not in the conventional sense. In short, Viva Entertainment Group will allow anyone to get into the subscription-based IPTV game with their own customized version of an over-the-top service if they don’t have the technology necessary to create their own over-the-top service. See, Viva Entertainment Group is the name behind Viva Middleware… a white label app that any third party can utilize as a means of selling OTT, IPTV services to their crowd of users as a means of generating revenue.

There are multiple advantages to this platform and arrangement, including a custom-built product that can effectively target a particular demographic. Case in point? In August, OTTV entered a joint venture with Oi2 Media to create an OTT product catering to the Latino market. Oi2 Media is the United States’ biggest distributor of Latino-centric digital content, offering both music and television. It’s the name behind CNN en Espanol and ESPN Deportes Radio, just to name a few. It wouldn’t be out of line to call the joint venture something along the lines of a Latino Netflix, but with a variety of channel broadcasts — some live — along with the digital broadcasts of hundreds of Latino radio stations.

    That degree of cus

  • [By Matthew Briar]

How does the old saying go? The enemy of my enemy is my friend? Not that there was ever any animosity among the players in the arena, but there’s no denying that two heads — two experienced heads — are better than one for any organization that’s trying to beat Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) at its own game. That’s why Viva Entertainment Group Inc (OTCMKTS:OTTV) CEO Johnny Falcones wanted Thomas Ashley, founder of competing over-the-top television venue FlixFling, on the OTTV Board of Directors… he knows exactly what Viva Entertainment Group is trying to do, and he knows a thing or two about how to do it.

The product is called Viva Middleware, which in simplest terms is a turn-key technology that allows anyone to get into the over-the-top (OTT) business with their own customized over-the-top television service. Live broadcasts, on-demand, music channels and original programming are all possible. This means they can customize the product locally or regionally, or thematically, like an all-sports or an all sci-fi venue. The possibilities are endless, which is in stark contrast to Netflix’s “what you get is what you get” approach.

It’s almost here. Viva Entertainment Group Inc (OTCMKTS:OTTV) is about to unveil its long-awaited over-the-top (OTT) television platform that’s poised to disrupt the entire television industry even more than it’s already been up-ended.

And it’s going to debut that technology in style. On December 13th, at the Riviera Hotel in South Beach Miami, OTTV will be hosting a launch party to debut its Viva OTT platform. Not only will the event give guests a chance to see and use the over-the-top television platform, they’ll be dazzled by performances by Soleil J and Jorge Moreno.

The product is called Viva Middleware, which in simplest terms is a turn-key technology that allows anyone to get into the OTT business with their own customized over-the-top television service. Live broadcasts, on-demand, music channels and original programming are all possible. This means they can customize the product locally or regionally, or thematically, like an all-sports or an all sci-fi venue. The possibilities are endless, which is in stark contrast to Netflix’s “what you get is what you get” approach.

And Viva Entertainment Group already has clients. In August the company announced it was entering a joint venture with Oi2 Media to create an OTT product catering to a specific segment of the nation’s demographic.

Oi2 Media is the United States’ biggest distributor of Latino-centric digital content, offering both music and television. It’s not just a Netflix-like service Oi2 and Viva will be providing, however. The Viva platform can serve as a robust alternative to cable television service, much of which is delivered in English and is therefore unusable to much of the Latino/Hispanic community.

It’s no small market either. Portada recently estimated that the Hispanic online-video ad market alone would be worth $425 million by 2020, pointing to the greater segmentation of the video market now that advancements in technology have made it possible. A

Don’t look for any news to explain the big 73% surge Viva Entertainment Group Inc (OTCMKTS:OTTV) dished out on Monday – you won’t find it, because there wasn’t any. Rather, OTTV shares popped all on their own.

The knee-jerk reaction may be to presume OTTV stock is destined to roll back just as quickly as the rally materialized. And, that may well be what’s in the cards. Before looking past Viva Entertainment Group as an investment opportunity that’s dead money until further notice though, Monday’s mostly-overlooked action may be a huge bullish clue.

For the unfamiliar, the company’s product is called Viva Middleware. The software/platform allows anyone to get into the over-the-top television business like Netflix and Hulu already are. Telecom service providers, media websites, universities, and pretty much anyone else can custom-build their own IPTV service, and collect subscription fees and/or ad revenue for doing so. Viva does all the back-end work, while the seller collects the customers.

The trick is simply filling the pipeline with content, and at the same time, convincing customers that there’s enough quality content at the source to become a paying subscriber. And in this case, the fact that the app works on any operating system or any device is a key selling feature.

Viva Entertainment Group has already been curating content for a while now, and has a nice library including a huge number of radio stations.

The stock, though, hasn’t exactly been rewarding even though the company’s back-story has been compelling. That paradigm shift may have changed on Monday.

Take a look. Out of nowhere, a ton of volume materialized on Monday… most of it bullish. There’s still a ton of ground left to make up, to be sure, but this is interesting. There was far more buying than selling on Monday, on HUGE volume. Why the sudden interest in buying a beaten-down OTTV? That’s the point. For one reason or another, the mood/rheto

“Right now, we are the only Latin American company in the retail segment, and the only ones with a real distribution chain assembled, selling in stores like Staples and others,” Caporale explained. “Stratasys, Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS)’s MakerBot had a few experiences in retail, but did not do very well: Cencosud SA (NYSE: CNCO)’s Jumbo supermarkets bought three printers [for its Argentina branch] and did not manage to sell any. The thing is, their machine costs about 90,000 Argentine pesos [about $6,000], and our machine goes for 32,000 pesos [about $2100].”

Today, our Under the Radar Moversnewsletter suggested shorting mid cap emerging markets retail stock Cencosud SA (NYSE: CNCO):

There are a couple of things going on here to lead us to a bearish conclusion, but the biggest of these is today’s cross under the 200-day moving average line (green) at $8.46. For a brief while it looked like this long-term moving average line was going to play a support role – as it often does – but today’s second selling effort broke its back. Now that the floor’s out of the way, the selling just got a lot easier.

Retailer shares have been unable to fully stabilize after sell-offs that accompanied their earnings for the 2016 holiday period. Some retailers shuttered stores. Others gave pessimistic guidance. Gap (GPS) tumbled to the bottom of the S&P 500 today after the parent company of Old Navy and Banana Republic experienced slowing traffic and offered disappointing guidance.

    Gap plunged 17% to $25.61 today, while the S&P 500 dipped 0.2% to 2,181.90.

Deustche Bank’s Paul Trussell explains why Gap’s fourth quarter looks tough:

While 3Q results were in-line with expectations, the reiteration of FY16 EPS guidance of $1.87-$1.92 (vs. the Street at $2.02) was disappointing as it implies EPS of ~$0.35-$0.40 for 4Q, meaningfully below the Street at $0.50. Results for the upcoming quarter are being impacted by the following factors: 1) a deceleration in industry traffic trends November MTD (we are lowering our November comp forecast to -2% from +2%, and vs. October down -1%); 2) an uptick in marketing spending across all the companys brands during the holiday season (GPS does not expect immediate payback); 3) lapping bonus reversals from last year; and 4) pressure on rent and occupancy due to pre-opening costs associated with the companys Time Square flagship locations for Gap and Old Navy (scheduled to open in the 2H17).

Gap’s market capitalization fell to $10.2 billion today from $12.2 billion yesterday.
