As has been widely documented, the technology sector saw its first real weakness of the year at the end of November. The Nasdaq 100 Index fell off nearly 3 percent from its highs, thought it has since gained a good chunk of it back.

This rotation also manifested itself in fund flows, as the two ETFs with the most outflows during this time both track the Nasdaq 100. The very real rotation outside of technology stocks and funds is obviously creating some losers, but there are winners as well.

Hot Performing Stocks To Buy For 2018: Bayer Aktiengesellschaft (BAYZF)

Advisors’ Opinion:

We believe that the pharmaceutical sector has received too much negative attention. Despite the risks, a few companies offer good entry opportunities. In our previous article, we recommended Akorn. Today, we have analyzed Teva. We believe that the company is in a position to thrive in the generic market, and that it is priced very attractively. Yet, we don’t like management’s aggressive M&A strategy. We don’t like very aggressive companies since large acquisitions rarely create value for the shareholders. Contributors argue that Teva has overpaid for Actavis (its latest and largest acquisition) by at least $14B. This does not surprise us since most M&A deals are too expensive. Previous corruption issues add further doubts. Unfortunately, there is no amount of profit that can convince us to invest in a company where we do not like the management. We have sold our positions in Bayer (OTCPK:BAYZF) for similar reasons. We like Bayer, but we have sold our shares because of the Bayer-Monsanto (NYSE:MON) acquisition.

And this is pretty important ground. Hepatocellular carcinoma can be managed with local therapy (surgery, embolization, etc.), but at its most advanced stages, the options quickly start to thin out. For a decade, the only option in systemic therapy was Bayer’s (OTCPK:BAYZF) sorafenib. Recently, the effective systemic treatment armamentarium was doubled with the approval of regorafenib for second-line therapy.

Fasinumab: Antibody against nerve growth factor, being developed for pain treatment like osteoarthritis. It is partnered with Teva Pharmaceutical (NASDAQ:TEVA) (for osteoarthritis, in phase 3), and is also being developed for treatment of chronic back pain. It is licensed to Mitsubishi Tanabe for the Japan territory. REGN2222: For prevention of RSV virus infection in infants, competing with Synagis from AstraZeneca (NYSE:AZN). Nesvacumab: Angiopoetin 2 antibody, being tested in combination with Eylea (in phase 2, partnered with Bayer (OTCPK:BAYZF)). Rinucumab (anti-PDGF): Being tested in treatment of wet AMD in combination with Eylea. Phase 2 trial was not successful, but the treatment duration was less (only 12 weeks versus 24 weeks for rival Ophthotech (NASDAQ:OPHT)). 28-week and 52-week data will be released later. With Ophthotech’s phase 3 failure with Fovista, we are bullish on Rinucumab’s commercial potential in wet AMD. Immuno-oncology pipeline: Checkpoint inhibitors and novel CAR-T; still in early stage.

Stocks ended mixedthough let’s face it, little changedas investors continue to wrestle with a world that’s more dangerous than ever and stocks that insist on just the opposite.

Bloomberg News

The S&P 500 dipped 0.1% to 2,163.78 today, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 25.96 points, or 0.1%, to 18559.01, a new record high. The Nasdaq Composite declined 0.4% to 5036.37.

For the Dow, it was the sixth record close in a row, the longest such streak since six days ended Dec. 26, 2013. The S&P 500′s 0.1% decline, meanwhile, was its largest drop since July 5that’s righttwo weeks ago. I guess it’s fair to say there hasn’t been much weakness recently?

Rhino Trading Partners’ Michael Block explains why he’s preparing for a decline:

What I have on my side is that things are getting a bit silly, in that suddenly everyone knows that the ten year note is going to 1%. Ive been in that camp for a while but when the bulge bracket guys are seeing it that way too you know what to do. Similarly, when I see some deep dive tech geniuses getting bullish on equipment names here, I will take the other side of that trade every day. Thank you and yes, please.

stock market sectors: Amgen Inc.(AMGN)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Three biotech stocks–Alexion Pharmaceuticals (ALXN), Amgen (AMGN), and Celgene (CELG)–reported earnings since yesterday’s close. But just one has seen its shares head higher after the announcement.

  • [By ]

All three are market-cap weighted — that is, the larger the company is, the more it impacts the overall performance of the index/fund. In the Nasdaq, for instance, the impact of any move in Apple, Microsoft or Amazon — which are weighted 12%, nearly 9% and nearly 8%, respectively — would be much more significant than the index impact of a much smaller position such as Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN), with less than 2% of the index assets allocated.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Amgen (AMGN) has tumbled 3.6% to $158.65 after beating earnings forecasts but missing on sales.

Buffalo Wild Wings (BWLD) has dropped 3% to $157.51 after its earnings fell short of the Street consensus.

  • [By Keith Speights]

Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD), Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE:BMY), and Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) stand out as three of the most likely suitors for Incyte. Here’s why these big drugmakers could be interested in making a significant acquisition.

  • [By Stavros Georgiadis]

Gilead Sciences (NSDQ:GILD) has underperformed the market with its stock price down almost 25% compared to a 10.33% gain in Nasdaq Composite (INDX:COMPX) and 14.60% gain of Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDX:INDU). Gilead and Amgen (NSDQ:AMGN)have had a very tough year, so it is interesting to know if now is the time to invest in GILD stock, not from a bottom fishing point of investing, which is often too risky, but on some solid financial and fundamentals arguments.

stock market sectors: Celanese Corporation(CE)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Time To Favor Optionality: Most macro data are similar to, or better than, when the merger was announced. As a result, the same returns have been obtainable, with significantly less stress, simply through owning 3M (MMM) or a basket of chemical companies that approximate the Dow-DuPont portfolio. Relative to the chemical sector, performance has been average, leverage appears reasonable but near-term FCF less-than compelling partly due to new capacity ramping. With the merger likely to close in the near-term (90% chance, in our view), we believe Dow-DuPont will have an opportunity to show how scale creates optionality. The overhaul at Celanese (CE) over the past few years shows the way.

Hot Heal Care Stocks To Invest In 2018

Many holders of The Trade Desk (TTD) are disappointed by the recent drop after Q3 earnings. The stock sold off on what was a strong earnings report and what was seen as “soft” guidance. This is likely because they didn’t much increase their full-year forecast and Q4 guidance over what they gave during the Q2 report. The market has been pricing in very high growth expectations and as growth slows the price will become more powered by earnings. Since the fall the stock has stabilized and in my opinion remains a very strong buy. The CEO Jeff Green is very much a visionary in the advertising industry, trying to push the boundaries of analytical data-driven advertising. Over the next several years we will continue to see a big push toward programmatic advertising as well as native ads. These changes often happen more abruptly than you would expect, as services like Netflix (NFLX) and Hulu speed up adoption. If you have a good risk tolerance TTD will continue to be volatile but provide exceptional growth with great management. Lets take a peak at the Q3 quarter.
