Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate controlled by Warren Buffett, agreed Wednesday to buy a stake in the troubled Canadian mortgage lenderHome Capital Group in a $1.8 billionrescue plan.

Berkshire will pay $300.7million for a 38.4% stake of the Toronto-based company and extend a $1.5 billion line of credit.

“This investment from Berkshire not only addresses Home Capitals near-term requirements for additional liquidity and a lower-cost credit agreement, but also facilitates what the Board feels is the best available path to long-term success,” said Brenda Eprile, chair of Home Capital’s board of directors, in a statement.

In recent years, Home Capital has repeatedly missed its financial guidance amid weaker loan volumes and declining income. In March, the company also revealed that several executives and directors have received enforcement notices from the Ontario Securities Commission related to its disclosure practices and stock trades.

Top 10 Warren Buffett Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Northrop Grumman Corporation(NOC)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Rich Smith]

On Thursday morning, before the stock market opens for business, Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) will report its financial results for fiscal Q4, and for 2016 as a whole.

  • [By Rich Smith]

Also included in the DSCA’s list of pending contracts are two directed toward the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, specifically:

A $300 million sale of C-17Globemaster III logistics support services, with Boeing acting as prime contractor; and A $33.5 million sale of Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) components, used to protect C-17s from anti-aircraft missile attack, supplied by Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC).

Add them all up, and the global shopping list for U.S. arms comes to more than $2.6 billion in total value, with most of that going to benefit prime contractors Orbital ATK and Raytheon, Boeing, Textron, and Northrop Grumman — some of the largest defense contractors on the planet, and stalwarts of the U.S. defense industry, each and every one.

    Key holdings in ITA include…

Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) makes a full range of unmanned vehicles. That means it can cover air, land, and sea assignments for both military and commercial uses. The company is widely known for military drones like the Desert Hawk III, used by the U.K. military to surveil suspected terrorists. It also makes the Marlin, an oceangoing drone that can conduct underwater surveys and inspections. Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) makes unmanned aircraft for defense applications naturally. It’s also collaborating with Yamaha Corp. (NYSE ADR: YAMCY) to develop an autonomous helicopter with onboard intelligence-gathering equipment for such civilian uses as search and rescue and forest-fire monitoring. Raytheon Co. (NYSE: RTN) is a great backend play because of its drone-support platform. The Common Ground Control System is an open-format control station that can be used to control all manner of UAVs. I expect the system to be adapted for commercial/industrial use as well.

As exciting as ITA’s drone exposure is, we also get a nice kicker with this ETF – defense spending.

An official government strategy may open the door for defense contractors beyond the traditional Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT), Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) and United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX).

recommended stocks to buy: Nustar Energy L.P.(NS)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Roberto Pedone]

One technology player that insiders are active in here is Jive Software (NS), which provides a social business software platform to businesses, government agencies, and other enterprises. Insiders are buying this stock into massive weakness, since shares are down sharply by 43% so far in 2014.

Jive Software has a market cap of $446 million and an enterprise value of $365 million. This stock trades at a fair valuation, with a price-to-sales of 2.68 and a price-to-book of 5.67. Its estimated growth rate for this year is 45.5%, and for next year it’s pegged at 30%. This is a cash-rich company, since the total cash position on its balance sheet is $98.18 million and its total debt is $6.60 million.

A director just bought 260,819 shares, or about $1.71 million worth of stock, at $6.53 to $6.60 per share.

From a technical perspective, JIVE is currently trending just above its 50-day moving average and below its 200-day moving average, which is neutral trendwise. This stock recently pulled back off its short-term high of $7.14 a share with heavy downside volume flows. That drop has now pushed the stock to right above its 50-day moving average at $6.10 a share.

If you’re bullish on JIVE, then I would look for long-biased trades as long as this stock is trending above its 50-day at $6.10 a share and then once it breaks out above some key near-term overhead resistance levels at $7.14 a share to its 200-day moving average of $7.43 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 557,678 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then JIVE will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels $8.50 to $9 a share, or even $9.50 to $10 a share.

Today, I (Porter) am going to introduce a new financial term…   I've been thinking about this a while… it's a term that describes the modern economy's fondness for central banks, paper money, huge debts, and financial bubbles. I call it the "Escher Economy."   I hope you'll read carefully. Remember… there's no such thing as teaching, only learning.    About five years ago, investors around the world began piling into Japanese stocks…   It was a surprising move.   Japanese stocks have been a virtual graveyard for capital since the late 1980s. That's when Japan's big real estate and investment bubble collapsed. The Japanese "Dow" – the Nikkei 225 Index – briefly soared from around 10,000 to more than 40,000… and then collapsed.

Top 10 Bank Stocks To Invest In Right Now: Lam Research Corporation(LRCX)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Wednesday was a mixed day for the stock market, as the Dow Jones Industrials dropped by triple digits but other major benchmarks fared much better. Crude oil prices fell nearly $2 per barrel to $50.50, and that hurt energy companies, along with a poor earnings report from technology giant IBM. Yet the broader market held up better, and the Nasdaq Composite actually gained ground. In particular, some good news from a few individual companies helped hold the markets up, and CalAmp (NASDAQ:CAMP), Lithia Motors (NYSE:LAD), and Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) were among the best performers on the day. Below, we’ll look more closely at these stocks to tell you why they did so well.

    Lam Researchgained 6.9% to $136.17 today, while the S&P 500 declined 0.2% to 2,338.17.

Credit Suisse analysts Farhan Ahmad and John Pitzer and argues that Lam Research’s “new trough is higher than [its] old peak.” They explain:

We expect that bears will continue to argue that CY17 is a “Peak” year; however we think that investors are missing that it now costs >2x more to get incremental bit growth than three years ago. It is noteworthy that despite ~$17bn of memory WFE in 2016 both NAND and DRAM markets went from oversupply to undersupply – implying that new trough for memory investments is even higher than old peak (2010 memory peak had WFE of $12.6bn). We view Semi Growth, rising capital intensity, and growing China CapEx as secular multiyear themes, which could continue to provide growth in coming years. In addition, in case of tax reform there could be potential to return >$50 per share to shareholders by 2020…Increase TP to $160 (from $143), based on 12x of CY18 EPS plus net cash adj for taxes.

Lam Research’s market capitalization rose to $22.2 billion today from $20.8 billion yesterday.

Lam Research (LRCX) has consistently outgrown the overall semiconductor-equipment market due to its high exposure to 3D NAND flash memory.

Four ideas turned up in this screen that might be of interest (prices as of February 9th close):

Heron Therapeutics (NASDAQ:HRTX) by ONeil Trader – published February 3rd, 2017, $525M Market cap, down ~2% since publication, author’s price target offers 130% upside. HRTX isn’t a generic drug provider, but its CINV franchise vs. the growth of a new drug gives it a similar sort of profile, and arguably a favorable risk/reward; commenters were mostly positive on the thesis. VistaGen Therapeutics (OTC:VTGN) by Logical Assessment – published July 29, 2016, $24M market cap, down 16% since publication, author’s price target offers 100%+ upside. This is obviously deeper into the speculative pile, but if the author’s thesis holds about VistaGen’s unique angle in the antidepressant drug space, comparable deals suggest good upside. (Of course, it’s always dangerous to rely solely on comparables). Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (NYSE:RDY) by Buddy Lyons – published July 5, 2016, $7.6B market cap, down ~13% since publication, author’s price target offers just shy of 100% upside. Dr. Reddy’s is a more obvious comparable to TEVA, with a generics business but also a manufacturing business and a proprietary products branch. The company bought a divestiture package of drugs from TEVA as part of the Allergan/Actavis deal. A big overhang was an FDA warning letter; the FDA is due to reinspect facilities this month or next, which could resolve that one way or another. Lannett (NYSEMKT:LCI) by Lateral Capital Management – published May 27, 2016, $750M market cap, down ~9% since publication, author’s price target offers 75% upside. LCI’s trading had been 90% correlated with Valeant, but Lateral Capital Management argues that the correlation is unjustified. The article does a deep dive into the company’s valuation and credit risk, and was well received at the time, even if the market hasn’t agreed…yet.

I also checked to see if there are any ideas starting to play out on the short si

So, instead of Bob's Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) Dealership or Fred'sGeneral Motors Company (NYSE: GM) outlet, you'll get companies likeAutoNation, Inc. (NYSE: AN) come in, put them under a single brand, consolidate HR and other expenses to develop economies of scale and really help additional bottom line."
“Another way to look at it is, there's coffee shops all around the world, but there's also Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ: SBUX), which started locally […] and developed really organically. But, they could just buy the local coffee shop, redesign it to the Starbucks brand, put their name on it… Now they have the distribution network, the backing of Starbucks, Starbucks will take care of their HR, their payroll — It's a more synergistic approach and a really value-add if they can consolidate any level of scale.”

“By women, for women”

“Lime-A-Rita has seen steady growth in its popularity among women since its introduction in 2012, with females currently representing 65% of our consumer base,” the senior director for Lime-A-Rita, Selena Kalvaria, told The Motley Fool in an email. “With the knowledge that females influence 85% of household buying decisions and currently make up over half of the U.S. population, we saw an opportunity to grow our existing relationship with women in this year’s campaign.”

Even though Saudi Arabia is only selling a 5% stake in the company, it will still potentially raise $100 billion. That’s more than four times the size of the current record set by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (NYSE: BABA) and its $25 billion 2014 IPO.

(NYSE: BA), and Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM). One company that has said it is not participating in the trip is Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT).

  • [By Laurie Kulikowski]

After a year of stock price fluctuations, the net result is that HON’s price has not changed very much. Although its weak earnings growth may have played a role in this flat result, don’t lose sight of the fact that the performance of the overall market, as measured by the S&P 500 Index, was essentially similar. Turning our attention to the future direction of the stock, it goes without saying that even the best stocks can fall in an overall down market. However, in any other environment, this stock still has good upside potential despite the fact that it has already risen in the past year.

Honeywell International (HON) is doing what its bigger industrial competitor General Electric (GE) can’t–beating earnings forecasts and seeing its shares gains.

    Getty Images

Honeywell reported a profit of $1.66 a share, beating estimates for $1.62 a share, on sales of $9.49 billion, beating forecasts for $9.33 billion. Honeywell also lifted the bottom end of its full-year guidance range to $6.90, from $6.85.

Vertical Research Partners’ Robert Stallard digs into Honeywell’s guidance:

Honeywell continues to expect that the aftermarket in air transport (supported by 4-5% flight hour growth) will grow faster than at BGA (with declining flight hours in BGA expected). For bizjet, Honeywell reiterated that it isnt anticipating an OE recovery until the 2018/19 timeframe. It expects Q2 Aerospace sales to be flat to down 2% on the similar trends of air transport aftermarket growth being offset by ongoing softness in BGA and Space, and noted that Q2 should be the last quarter of OE incentive headwinds (H2 moving to a ~$70m tailwind versus a ~$25m headwind in H1).

Shares of Honeywell have gained 2.6% to $126.96 at 2:54 p.m. today, while General Electric has fallen 1.9% to $29.70 after reporting earnings. The Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI) has advanced 0.2% to $65.48.

Top Gold Stocks To Own For 2018

Yesterday we talked about the disconnect between the daily drama from the media in Washington (doom and gloom), and what the markets have been communicating (an economic expansion is underway). Today, you might think that connection is happening—the doom and gloom scenario is finally being realized in markets. Probably not.

For perspective: As of the close yesterday, the Nasdaq was up 18% year–to–date (just five months in). Gold was in the middle of a three year range. Market interest rates (the U.S. 10–year government bond yield) was just above the middle of the range of the past four years. The dollar was not far off its strongest levels in 15 years.

Today the media has explicitly printed the headline of impeachment for Trump (actually, they’ve run those headlines a various times over the past several months). Nonetheless, stocks (the S&P 500) today are off by 1.6%.

This gets the bears very excited. I saw the story about consumer debt, surpassing 2008 levels, floating all over the Internet today. People tried to make the bubble connection—implying another debt crisis was coming.

Top Gold Stocks To Own For 2018: Lexaria Bioscience (LXRP)

In October, small cap food sciences stockLexaria Bioscience Corp (OTCQB: LXRP) was issuedU.S. Patent No. 9,474,725 Cannabinoid Infused Food and Beverage Compositions and Methods of Use Thereof and now the company is seeking to expand this patent internationally. This patent protects Lexaria Bioscience Corps intellectual property related to infusion of cannabinoid compounds in edible products and includes a set of claims that describe the Companys method of combining a fatty acid compound with any non-psychoactive cannabinoid for improved bioavailability and taste performance in both food and beverage formats.

  • [By Jim Robertson]

Last week, small cap food sciences stockLexaria Bioscience Corp (OTCQB: LXRP)announced a deal with Hempco Food and Fiber (OTCMKTS: HMPPF; TSXV: HEMP) that will take hemp foods to the next level. First of all, hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown for the industrial uses of its derived products as the plant material can be refined into justabout anything, including paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food and animal feed:

  • [By Jim Robertson]

Small cap Lexaria Bioscience Corp (OTCQB: LXRP)is a food sciences company focused on the delivery of active compounds that can behave as superfoods through its proprietary infusion technologies. This technology enables higher bioavailability rates for CBD, THC, NSAIDs, Nicotine and other molecules than is possible without lipophilic enhancement technology allowing for lower overall dosing requirements and/or higher effectiveness in active molecule delivery. The Companyhopes to reduce other common, but less healthy ingestion methods such as smoking as it embraces the benefits of public health.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

Don’t be surprised if Lexaria Bioscience Corp (OTCMKTS:LXRP) shares seem a little peppier and even more bullish than usual for the next three months, give or take… and that’s saying something considering LXRP is 158% since early October, and up 47% since mid-December. Why’s that? The organization has hired a publicity firm to help tell its story to an even bigger audience, and that attention could attract a whole new batch of buyers for the stock.

Granted, the Lexaria Bioscience story is a compelling one to begin with.

If 2016 (and 2017 so far) were to be pegged with any major investment “themes,” cannabis would have to be it. Marijuana/hemp — cannabinoids, ultimately — was on the ballot for one reason or another in nine states this past November, and those pro-cannabis measures passed in eight of those votes. As such, cannabis is now legal for at least one reason in 26 states of the United States, and the movement is still gathering momentum.

And well it should. The recreational aspect of marijuana and cannabinoids aside, hemp (a form of cannabis plant that isn’t the kind of marijuana that provides a “high”) delivers a multitude of health benefits. Specifically, users of hemp oil find the plant-based oil improves immunity, improves cardiovascular health, moderates blood sugar, treats skin conditions, treats arthritis, inhibits osteoporosis, fights some mental disorders, and in some cases has been found to be an anti-cancer agent. Lexaria Bioscience is simply enhancing these benefits of hemp oil by enhancing the amount of hemp oil a human body can absorb when ingested.

Simply put, Lexaria has developed and patented a proprietary technology that makes valuable molecules taste better and absorb better in the digestive tract. The key to the science is the fact that Lexaria Bioscience is able to combine cannabinoids with lipids — or fatty acids — at the molecular level. It matters, because the human endocannabinoid system is it

Top Value Stocks To Own Right Now: Atkore International Group Inc. (ATKR)

Advisors’ Opinion:

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Flexing the barbell strategy to balance Safe Havens with more cyclical exposures. In our view, industrials investors should be positioning their portfolio with a barbell strategy, with half of the exposure in Safe Havens like General Electric, Xylem (XYL), Danaher, Honeywell International, Roper Technologies (ROP), and AMETEK (AME), and the other half selectively in the cyclical names that are better positioned today, such as Pentair, HD Supply Holdings (HDS),Actuant (ATU), Atkore International Group (ATKR), Ingersoll-Rand, and Eaton (ETN). We still believe risk-reward is mostly balanced and that the macro will remain choppy into 2017, supporting a positioning in the defensive names. But if investor sentiment improves on not-worse news and earnings results, the more cyclical names could fare better.

While companies with lower-priced shares are often riskier than those with higher prices, some companies trading under $5 per share have intriguing potential. Investors searching for overlooked growth opportunities should consider industrial biotech BioAmber (NYSE:BIOA), pharmaceutical services company Codexis (NASDAQ:CDXS), and one-trick-pony biopharma Keryx Biopharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:KERX).
